Stairs @ HH

I will be at HH this week with my family. My Mom who is suffering from cancer will not be able to do a lot of stairs. I've called the front desk to make sure I get a building with an elevator but learned that two bedroom villas are only in buildings without elevators. So, I requested that we get a room on the first level. The CM told me that it's about 12 to 14 steps to the first level. Do you guys agree with that number? Do the buildings a have ramp access?

There are no ground level villas. The "first" floor in all buildings is up a few steps. I think the number steps may be more like 6 steps to the "first" floor rooms. The second floor villas are up two flights from there - with each flight about 8-10 steps. We just left HH and I should have paid closer attention to the actual number.

The HH front desk was correct about the elevator buildings - there are no dedicated 2BR villas in those buildings (11/12) - all are lock-offs which are used mostly as Studios and 1BR villas except when a 2BR is required for HCA needs.

The reason for there being no ground floor villas is the local building codes do not permit anything accessible from the ground due to possible flooding due to storms (including hurricanes).

There are no access ramps for any of the buildings. All of the handicap accessible villas are in the main lodge area - Buildings 11 and 12 (these are connected and served by a single elevator from the parking garage).

If you can possibly make-do with a 2 bedroom lock-off, I would call MS and explain that you need one in bldg. 11 or 12. I think that the steps would get to be a problem for your mom. I actually counted them when I was there in May because I want my DH to come to HHI next time and he has trouble with steps. Unfortunately my pea-brain has forgotten how many there were, but it was definitely more than he would be able to handle multiple times/day. Good luck!

You can see in the villa on the right in these pictures how far up the first floor is-3 steps, a platform and then maybe 7 more.
