stainless steel appliances

Did you just upgrade your kitchen appliances to stainless steel, because it's the hottest new trend? Sorry to tell you this, but the stainless trend may be on its way out.

After 15 years of stainless everything, manufacturers are now moving on to new finishes.

Almost every new kitchen now stainless

If you remodeled your kitchen in the past decade, chances are you chose stainless steel for your fridge, dishwasher and stove.

Stainless looks professional, and shows you've "arrived." But The Wall Street Journal says if you just upgraded, you may have arrived late.

It says stainless steel is "on overtime," and reports "stainless fatigue." In addition, as every homeowner with young children knows, true stainless steel shows fingerprints like no other finish.

As evidence of the new trend, It cites Whirlpool's new Ice Collection, which calls white the "new stainless."

Don't believe the report? Check out the pictures on the Whirlpool Ice Collection website . No, it is not a webpage from 1993. Whirlpool's hot new look is white, as in the refrigerator you got rid of five years ago.

You should be careful about posting such long excerpts from articles; this is a copyright violation.

As for the article itself, I read that when it was first published and my thoughts then were everything goes in and out of fashion, so chose the finish you like for your appliances and don't worry about what is in, unless you will be selling your house in the near future.

What did you buy?

I am considering Slate, but only GE makes it, or the Black ice.

We bought the Fridgedaire Gallery ensemble. Ice maker issues since day one (top ice maker doesn't have a "full lever" so it jams with ice because it never stops making it and then it leaks!!! Stove has a black top and is hard to keep clean, plus the grates are rusting!!! and the gas burners "clog" dishwasher has seal issues... I could go on, and the most unfortunate thing is that Fridgedaire is less than helpful, the have sent people out to repair but there is no "fix" for these issues, they just "replace" parts with the same thing and it happens all over again. All of my issues are all of the same issues that people complain about in the bad reviews that I neglected to read before I purchased...

Big sigh...

We replaced all of ours about a year ago with stainless. We went with Fridgidaire Gallery, the Gallery line is the brushed stainless so fewer fingerprints. I bought the stainless cleaning wipes, but honestly I rarely have to use them. I'm really happy with what we got.

That is exactly what we have, and have nothing but problems!!!! do you have the fridge with the french Doors and ice and water through the top with a second Icemaker on the bottom?

I have stainless steel and will never, ever buy stainless steel again.
Even with daily cleaning, it constantly looks dirty.
You cannot use magnets to put things on the fridge door so no easy way to post pictures or reminders on the fridge.
The worst part is I had some huseguests who were very kind and helped clean up in the kitchen - but they use paper towels on the stove front and now it is all scratched up.

have all stainless, GE profile for Built in microwave and oven
Whirlpool fringe and dishwasher
Bosch cook-top and hood fan,
Little tougher to keep clean than the black
appliances used to have but love the look of stainless.
