Staff Deals With Bad Trade

sure he was willing to trade all that stuff for a rare item, because it was rare to his knowledge. how would you like someone to pull the same stunt on you, Tlinden16, and see if you still feel that it's not a scam.

Have you ever heard the phrase "let the buyer beware"? When the seller has something that the buyer really wants, it's in the sellers hands to sell, or in this case, trade the item for what they want and what they think it's worth. The seller is the one who has the ability to not give the item. The buyer has the ability to say, "I'm not willing to give that much for that item." The seller had an item that buyer wanted. They negotiated a trade that they were both happy with. It was a good trade.

If it had been me, yes, I would have been disappointed and upset--that's understandable, but I would have myself to blame because I didn't look to see if that item was onsale before trading for it.

This is a situation of buyer's remorse.

Hey they only have limited resources and they have to spend most of them watching Moussedude and Sufferat!

Too Funny Lisa - sad but true. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I don't think it's fair to call this trade a scam when CyanMatt got an item that he wanted. He was willing to trade those items for the ears. Yes, he could have saved the items and bought the ears, but he chose to make the trade. It was his decision to make the trade. He got what he wanted for a price he was willing to pay. It just was bad timing with the ears going on sale today--if the trade had happened yesterday, no on would be calling this a scam.

I guess we should all take it as a lesson to double check the stores when we sign on each week in case rare items we are looking for are on sale again.
True, but I just want to get enough for teleportation and a space suit.

CyanMatt did not know the ears were on sale,so you can't say this was a fair trade. The fact that Hamhamboy(the seller)knew that the ears were on sale is was scares me,and that there are alot of people like him out there. We really need to stop this,If staff won't take care of it,we will.

this is a valuable lesson. All of a sudden you see everyone wearing the hat and trading them. That should make you cautious! remember if something is too good to be true than it is!!!

Dont forget that people here have an advantage that many in that game dont have. A community of people that help each other out! Check these boards before you do any big trade!!! The sorcerer ears sale was posted here almost immediately after they were on sale.

Though this trade may have been within the bounds of being 'legal', it definitely was not ethical, and was most certainly unkind.

This is an excellent suggestion! :flower:

Yes "Let the Buyer Beware" is important to remember. But keep in mind that those playing this game are not just simple minded adults who, if they get scammed, are from carelessness, stupidity or what have you. There are also young children who play who may not have learned that particular lesson in life yet. This is one reason I really dislike the entire "rarity" trade thing. A young child does not always understand the concept of rarity. Nor does a young child understand the idea that what came out once may come out again in a few months. A day can be an eternity to a child and this game is supposed to be FUN for them. It bothers me that VMK may be the first place a young child learns that "life ain't fair". It is so un-Disney in concept that it makes me cringe.

I realize that there are those who are collectors and traders who play the game. Still, I find it a little disturbing to witness the degree of greed this fosters. I have many rare items but that is because I like the items. Not because I enjoy prancing around in them and saying, "Gee, look what I have that you don't." Also, I try very hard, with the family members, to showcase the items and rooms in the Castle. Again, this is not to demonstrate wealth but to show ways to decorate that may give another guest ideas for his/her own room. I have said it before. If this game were geared to teens and adults then the whole trade/rarity issue would be okay. Most serious gamers know that you can't get every item in every game. But the game is not. Little children love to pretend. They love to dress up and play with doll houses. This game is ideal for that but with this "stinginess" with regard to releases it spoils that aspect for many of those children. Many on this board are adults with children. I know you have posted frustration over getting those "special" items. It also has puzzled me for some time that you can't get virtual ears in VMK unless you can get to a real Disney park (black or gold). Surely, there should be some set of ears that ALL guests can get. In my opinion, the Sorcerer Ears should be available at all times; or at least some color of Mickey ears. After all, child, teen, or adult, we are ALL Disney fans of some degree and for a Disney park, even a virtual one, not to have ears just seems way strange to me.

By all means, make a few things rare. Do it the way they do it in the Disney parks though. Don't use the clothes and furniture that is such a staple of the game. Instead, make the pins the collectibles. Don't bring out the same Tomorrowland set ever again. Make a different Tomorrowland set. Or, do something with posters. You could use the same design as the pins. Now, do I think all furniture and costumes should be available at all times? No, but since the furniture comes in different colors, just rotate them every few months. Retire the blue slipper for a while and bring back pink or yellow. Don't bring out all costumes all the time. Pick a weekend a month and bring out a couple. That way, those who must have something "Now" can trade while others can take comfort from, "I missed it this round, maybe it will be out again in a few months" or be able to purchase THIS month's outfit to trade for LAST month's.

Was CyanMatt foolish for not checking the stores first? Perhaps a little short-sighted but on the other hand this was not the Halloween costume release weekend that one might have expected to see the ears come out. Usually, at best, only a pin is released on Fridays. Also, CyanMatt may not be allowed to read DIS or other boards. Some parents do not want their young ones reading/posting on chat boards. So, he may not have had access to the information from an outside source before hand.

I see no problem with VMKJentink and the others trying to help him. After all, that is what the DIS is known for. The willingness to help other guests. I know, especially on this board, that is very difficult to see things through the eyes of a child. But those of you who can, try to step back from your own grown-up, disenchanted eyes (that goes with the shrug of, "It isn't fair but it is what it is" and view this from a youngster's point of view.

It's a shame that happened. And tho it is a type of scam, it's true that you should check the stores and check the forums before doing any major trade.

I don't trust anyone who might come to you wanting to trade away a "rare". That just sends off warning bells to me. And you have to face the cold hard facts. There are lots of unsrupulous people out there that will take whatever they can get from anyone. And that includes VMK.

And another thing to think about, if the person comes up to you with a "rare" item to trade, tell them you're willing to trade, but to give you a few minutes to think and do some quick research. If the trade is good at that time, it should be good a few minutes later. If not, then it's probably not an honest trade. :)

*bevgray: I see your points. But if you look at the way they're doing releases of items and stuff available only in the parks, it's identical to their normal business practices. There are items irl that you can only get at a park. There are items that they take off the market and don't release ever again and those that are released only a while later (ie: movies on vid and dvd). I hate the way that the company has become. But it is a legacy of Eisner and I don't see it stopping anytime soon. It is after all a business that has demands from their investors. And VMK is an advertisement to get people into the parks. Period.

And any young kids that don't know some of the realities in life, their parents should be beside them supervising them. Especially when it comes to trading.

(btw: Hello to a fellow Hoosier :))

Many points interesting points have been made on this thread. I think that many adults find it almost impossible to see things through the mind and heart of a child, especially if they have not have children of their own. But even as parents, many adults have lost that magic and can no longer see things through a child's point of view.

Years ago I was teaching first grade, and I allowed the children to bring in small toys that could easily fit on their desktops. They could bring these toys out during snack time, push their desks together and play and socialize while eating their fruit. It was wonderful for me as well...gave me a short mental break. We all went into the second part of the morning refreshed.

Anyway, on one particular day, one of the boys had his brand new bicycle at school. I'm not sure that I remember why, because they were not allowed to use them at recess. I think perhaps he was going to a friend's house after school (we were a small school and were quite accommodating to parents if their requests were within reason). Well, I'm sure that you can guess what I've set the stage to say. At the end of the day, the child that had brought his shiny new bike to school very happily gathered up a set of army men toys that had been brought into school by another child. Yes, they had traded, and both were thrilled with the trade! The boy that had traded away the bike wanted the five dollar toy more than the bike, so it seemed simple enough to him. He had another bike at home, but he didn't have those army men! Well, I as tactfully and sweetly as I could 'untraded', and sent two very disappointed boys home with what they had come to school with.

Children do not think and reason the same way that adults do, and we cannot expect them to. And so, if we as adults are going to play this game with them, we need to do it mindful of these things and treat them with the care and respect that they deserve. We also need to be aware that many children are completely without the level of supervision that we have had demonstrated here with the parents that are regular posters to this board. And I would rather error on the side of showing kindness to a child than to be thought of as a practical thinking adult any day of the week. Just my two cents, for what it's worth. :goodvibes

I am not sure when he traded for the sorcerer ears. But when I looked at the emporium at a little after noon it was not in specials. However they were in specials by 1 pm.

I was in a trade room at 12:15 and someone offered a whole lot for sorcerer ears. I made the post that they were due out again very shortly. The answer I received was "So". That person found out what "SO" when less than an hour later they were in special.

You can bet he is also crying "Unfair"

This person even if he is in a way not the smartest, did get scammed and that is unexscusable. If i know who did it, I know a scammer very well, however I have not told on him for few reasons that are not needed to be disscussed. Anways I can get it back for the dude, could you tell me what the scammers name was?

Oh, just saw it... Figures they let it out when I am broke from last event, and can't work my mules... Hmm... Giddyap Friendly-Face! :rotfl2:

the user who did the samming is HamHamdude.

TinkerBlue thanks so much for your insight and terrific ideas. i wish more people think like you. the greed that runs so rampant in the game as well as on vmkforums makes me physically ill. the thing that makes it the worse, it's not only shrewd adults and teens, i myself was scammed when i was a new player by a ten year old. since then other kids of similar age have also tried to do the same to me and others. there's even a "big business club" that's been started on vmkforums by a couple of kids for these greedy types. what scares me as much as adults scamming kids, is kids scamming kids.

CyanMatt is not allowed to access these forums to hear the early news, otherwise he would have known. the trade for the hat was made about an hour after the sorcerer ears were put in the emporium. wish parents of the greedy kids would watch more closely what their kids are doing online.

He knew!

Anyone know what happened with this? I am going to guess....nothing!
