Stacking Credits

There have been several threads about "stacking credits" with DCL. Many of these threads were a direct result of the new AAA/DCL onboard credit to replace the soda card.

I am transferring my reservation to AAA today in order to take advantage of that credit. AAA also offered me a $100 onboard credit for transferring.

I spoke directly with the TA and DCL to clear up the "stacking" issue and here is what I was told: you cannot stack PROMOTIONAL credits. In other words, DCL gives you one and a TA gives you one as a promotion. However, if your TA is giving you an onboard credit directly from their agency as a "thank you" for transferring, then no, that is not a promotional credit. AAA told me it is considered the same as if I called and placed money on my account to use onboard. They are transferring the money directly to my onboard account with a cash voucher.

Hope that all made sense. There were a lot of people who PM'd me about stacking and I thought maybe I could clear that up.

so, in theory, if you had a $200 "promotional" stateroom credit for booking with DCL onboard and then transferred that ressie to AAA and they gave you a $100 "thank you" stateroom credit, you'd then have $300?? Now is that $100 (for transferring to them) the replacement for the soda program, or is that a different 3rd credit you'd be getting???

Two years ago we booked with AAA and received a $100.00 credit which we were told was the first time cruisers credit. After reading these boards I learned about the American Express White Glove deal and had it added to my reservation. The White Glove plan included a $250.00 credit. We heard conflicting reports from DCL, our TA and people posting on the board about whether we would receive both credits and assumed that we wouldn't. When we got aboard we checked with guest services and we had a $350.00 credit waiting for us so I know that they can stack certain credits.

Last year we had the credit from booking our cruise on board and when we transerred the reservation to a Disney Visa Card we were told that we would not receive both credits and we didn't. I think that it must be the way AAA handles the payment of the credit. There should be no reason why AAA isn't allowed to add cash as a "gift" to someones account.

So then what are considered PROMOTIONAL credits or a PROMOTION from a TA? It looks like we're still just talking about AAA versus DCL. What everyone keeps getting confused on is the credit they recieve from DCL and then why they can't keep that credit or get another credit from DU when they transfer ressies.
Isn't it only the credits sponsored by DCL that can't be stacked, regardless of who is offering them?

I remember someone from DU saying that their credit was sponsored by Disney so not out of their pocket. I think AAA must sponsor their own from a cut from commission. Disney just isn't going to give you more money from their own pockets by stacking credits. Kind of using two coupons in a food store for the just one thing.

This is why I'm sorry I didn't transfer to AAA instead of DU. I booked while onboard last year for this October so I got the $200 credit. Since Disney sponsors DU credit, I'm not eligible for that.

For the repo cruise, I transferred to Costco and saved 10% of my total cost. I didn't get a credit to use, but $422 off the top was better than what DU was offering.

Next time, I will be comparing Costco and AAA, but not DU.

Basically, my understanding is that you can use one DCL credit. In addition, you can use any promotion or perk that a TA may be providing.

For instance, we re-booked while on board to get the $200 stateroom credit plus 10% off. SO, that deal was from DCL. THen, we transferred that resservation to a discount agent, and were able to get an additional cost savings from that agent (they essentially pay you back a portion of their commission.) However, even though we pay with Disney visa, we cannot get the $50 Visa credit on top of the $200 rebooking credit because both of those credits are from DCL.

Hope this makes sense.....
