St. Thomas/St. John - Beaches

We'd like to do some sight seeing and spend some time on a "family" beach in St. Thomas. Any suggestions?

We went to Coral World and then Coki Beach right next door. The beach is beautiful, gentle waves and great snorkeling no more than 10 yards from the beach. Coral World is a lot of fun, and you can easilly do it in 1-1.5 hours. Plus if you buy admission to Coral World, you get to use their showers after you are done with the beach. They have discount coupons at the info booth at Havensite Mall. The beach was pretty busy but it wasn't a real problem. You can tent chairs, umbrellas and snorkel equipment right there.

It was our favorite day of the cruise, and we are already looking to book a week in St Thomas because we had such a good time.

On St. Thomas, there are only "family" beaches. I assume that you are talking about "proper" swimming attire when you say "family". On the French side of St. Maarten is where you will see some nudity.

We went to Orient Beach on St. Maarten and saw some nudity (most about as "exciting" as very dark wood panneling, some of it funny - a "white" guy with really, really, really RED cheeks - I think he forgot that the sun has never shined down there ) The beach is beautiful and the water was great. I would go back there again (we went with 3 kid age 8-14 - and they were not devistated by the experience).

We have only gone on snorkeling trips to St. Johns when in St. Thomas, and the next cruise will be the same, so I can't help you with any beach recomendations.

Magens Bay Beach on St. Thomas is beautiful. When we visited in 2000, there weren't any "clothing optional" bathers present at that beach. This may be due in large part to the fact that St. Thomas is a part of the US Virgin Islands.

I second Magens Bay. We were there this past December. There is a small fee ($3.00 I think) The beach was clean, there was a snack bar and facilities. What a beautiful view!
