St. Patricks Day plans

Hi

I am planning on being a bad mommy (lol) and taking my six year old out of first grade for the day and going the parade with DH & DS. Both of my nephews are marching with their school band. We love the parade and go whenever we can. Supposed to be beautiful here Thursday (temp in 50's) and sunny. We will then go back to neighborhood and out to local Irish pub for a great dinner. Some years we even go see the Cheiftains, but not in town this year.

Will make my sodabread tomorrow and have been listening to my irish music all month.

I love being IRISH................

Other than cornbeef and cabbage are there any other traditional St Patty's day meals? I am going to google lamb stew and soda bread, but is there anything else?

Beef stew Is very popular here in ireland to be honest I don't know anyone here who makes a lamb stew although Im sure its made here :)
bacon/ham and cabbage
Coddle I make it with bacon pieces sausages potatoes onions carrots and a little parsley and thyme put it all in a pot of water when cooked I add dried oxtail soup (don't know how easy it is to get in the USA I've seen the knorr one in florida) I mix that with a little water and add to the pot I do it the same for stew except with beef not bacon and sausage some people here add vegetable soup to the coddle instead of oxtail
also the vegetable Curly kale is popular here for St. Patrick's day instead of cabbage and just to add cornbeef is very popular in Ireland :)

Im going to add a photo of bacon pieces just incase its different for you http://www.kerriganmeats.ie/shop/ham pieces (me).jpg

We will have our traditional boiled dinner-- ham, potatoes, and cabbage. Of course it's the wearing o' the green.

We will also be missing my sister on the 1st anniversary of her death. :sad1:

It's a good thing you added a picture because that is NOT what I was thinking when you said bacon pieces.:rotfl: I have never heard of oxtail soup but I do know of knorr.

Thanks! I am going to have to try this recipe.

I'm getting my stitches out so I'm going to celebrate by eating a nice juicy steak! Not very irish but I want a steak! Maybe I'll put Irish creamer in my coffee. lol

I will be laying by the pool in Maui.

Where are you staying?

It's my daughter's birthday...we wear green and try to do something special for her and her friends. Not sure what what that will be yet.
