We just got off the Fantasy and one of the stops was St. Maarten. One of the things that was recommended to do with such small children was Le Galion Beach. This is known as the family beach. Since my kids are 6 and 4 we decided to do this beach. Le Galion is protected by a reef that breaks up the waves. This means the beach is calm and great for kids and families. This not a Disney excursion and you will need to do this port adventure yourself. Don't worry it is pretty painless.

The first thing you will need to do is go to the Taxi stand and get in line for Orient Beach. There is no sign or taxi stand for Le Galion beach. When you talk to taxi drivers just tell them you want to go to Le Galion beach. They will load you in a taxi destined for Orient Beach. Le Galion is next to Orient Beach so that is why you must get a taxi to Orient Beach. Make sure the taxi drivers know to stop at Le Galion beach. The fare was $8 per person each way. You can ask the taxi driver to come and pick you up. We chose 3 pm and it worked out fine. There were others taxis outside Le Galion when we were ready to leave, but we rode back with the same guy since he was on time.

Now when you get there the beach will be in front of you. Just walk to the beach and on the right will be Tropical Waves. A small but cozy place to rent chairs/umbrella/water sports. They also start serving lunch at noon. If you order a hamburger as for it medium well or well. I assumed since they asked how I liked it the burgers were hand made. This is not the case. They are pre-packaged patties. There is nothing wrong with that, but they are thin so cooking them medium is pretty hard. I would be cautious and go with the medium well or well next time. The prices are in Euros but they take credit cards which makes everything easier. Just tell them you want to open a tab. I am attaching a picture of Tropical Waves, the chairs/umbrellas, and the water sport rentals.

These pictures were taken with a GoPro which isn't good at still pictures, but you get the idea of how Le Galion beach is laid out.

Thanks!

Thanks. The wind was really bad that day. The cab driver was trying to convince everyone to go to Le Galion with my family. He was explaining that the waves were too big to get into the water at Orient beach for the kids.

Thanks for the post. We were on the EC 2 weeks ago and thought seriously about Le Galion but ended up going to Orient Bay instead. Our children are 16, 14, and 11 and we thought they would enjoy a more active beach. We had very pleasant weather in St. Martin and we enjoyed Orient Bay beach.

How was the weather on your cruise?
