DW, DS (almost 5) and I are looking at excursions for our upcoming Eastern cruise.

We've read on the boards that St. John's is a beautiful island and the Passporter rated the St. John's Island Tour a 9/10.

However, we are wondering how much time is spent on the boat ride to and from St. John's compared to the actual time on the island?

The DCL excursion sheet says it is a 5-5.5 hour tour. From what we've read, the boat ride is 45 minutes. Double that and we're on the boat for 1.5 hours and only 3.5-4 on St. John's.

For the people that have done this excursion, do you find the time on St. John's to be sufficient? How do you rate this excursion?

We wanted to take DS to Coral World when we got back to St. Thomas. Would we have enough time?

Other thoughts for St. Thomas would be shopping (for DW) or a beach (for DS). We know we will probably only have time for one thing. Which of the three would you suggest?

The other thought we had was to skip St. John's this cruise, do the St. Thomas Island tour (should be done by 10:30 based on the DCL sheets) and then take a cab to Coral World and Coki Beach. Then maybe an hour or so of shopping before boarding the Magic. (we are not chosing the Coral World tour because we've read that you don't get much time at CW and we'd like to hit Coki Beach while we're there.)

Any thoughts/comments will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

I recently asked a similar question about St. John. A kind reply informed me that St. John's is someplace else entirely, and that the island near St. Thomas is St. John, no "s". You can do a search on St. John and get that thread and others that all state in any of the DCL offered excursions to Trunk Bay, there is considerably less time than your estimate. And you used the word "only". Checking in, waiting, boarding, making sure everyone is accounted for, I think that eats into the time as well.

I was encouraged to get to Trunk Bay on my own, and plan to.

Did Magan's Beach last time at St. Thomas and loved it--did that on our own, too.

DW and I liked the shopping better at St. Martin than at St. Thomas on more than one cruise, but we seem to be a minority voice for that opinion.
