st augustine beach hotels?

looking for recommendations of hotels on the beach in St Augustine -- any recommendations / advice for something nice and right on the beach?

There are very few hotels on St. Augustine Beach. A couple on the beach and a couple across the street from the beach. The majority of the places to stay are condos and beach homes.

We've only stayed at condos on the beach, hotels inside of St. Augustine.

We were there this year and there were about 10 hotels if I remember correctly. It is not like Clearwater where there are tons of them.

We go to St A every spring. We have stayed at the Hampton on the beach. And the Hilton Garden Inn (across the street from the Hampton Inn) Both are very nice. The Hilton has fridge and microwaves in their rooms as well as a kitchen "area" I like these rooms better. And the lobby is really nice too. They serve breakfast. The HI is directly on the beach (but unless you get ocean view you can't see the water so see the parking lot) The rooms are typical but breakfast is included. Usually, we pick whichever one we can find the better deal for at that time.

One of our favorite little local resataurants is the Sea Oats. It is south on A1A right down the street from the hotels in the Publix shopping area. Great homestyle breakfast/lunch. Sunset Grill, next to the Hilton is also a fun bar/restaurant.

We stayed at the Ramada on the beach there, a few miles down and hated it- the rooms were dirty and the pool was terrible, hidden next to the dumpster.

As this thread is nearly 2½ years old, it's too late for the OP. However, Beacher's Lodge http://www.beacherslodge.com/ is right on the beach, not just near it, but direct oceanfront.

The Hampton Inn St. Augustine Beach is also direct oceanfront, as I remember, however I think it is set back from the beach a little bit. Also, the beach near the pier tends to be rocky in patches. You may want to check this out.
