Hi All, I hope someone can come along to help my panic attack.
We are staying SSR in Nov. I have never stayed there and I am seriously doubting my waitlist will come through.
I have a few questions, if I don't get a room near Artist Pallet how far is the walk to refill my mug or get to the pool?
Is there an internal bus that just loops the hotel?
We have a car reserved because I have heard that the walk is terrible if we are far out, but I would like to save the $$$.

Please tell me what you loved about SSR, I am trying to keep an open mind about this trip!!
Thanks,
Traci

We are owners at SSR and I have to say that we love it there! The bus does loop around everywhere and to be honest, the walk is not that bad. It is gorgeous and relaxing. You will love it!
Would a fellow Tracey lie to you?? lol

another Tracee here that owns at SSR and I don't think the resort is hard to walk but you could put in a request for a section that appeals to you the most. We like the Grandstand because it is a 5 min walk to Artists Palette or High Rock pool, has it's own pool, has a golf course view (DH requests) and is the first bus stop. Springs is central to all and Paddock has a new (and I've heard fabulous) pool withit's own mug station.

I wouldn't get a car if your only concern is getting around the resort. My dds and I have walked from The Grandstand (closest to the front) to DTD and they were 4 & 7 at the time.

I wouldn't stress of the resort size it is very managable and I think you will have a great time. It really is a lovely and relaxing resort.

Not a Tracy, but I second the Traci/Tracee comments here. We were like you, intimidated by the size of SSR, but after staying there for a week, we found that everything was within easy walking distance. We really enjoyed the resort.

Absolutely agree. We stayed in THV and did not feel the need for a car. The walk to the main building was 10 minutes and very lovely. We are walkers though, so take that into account. The landscaping is beautiful. We are excited to try a stay in a 2 bdrm and try out the new paddock pool area. The size, like OKW, can seem overwelming, but I really don't think it is. The benefit is a serene resort where you can relax after the parks.

We always stay in Congress park and walk up to the springs every morning for drinks.

It's not very far and gets you ready for walking in the parks.

If there happens to be a bus at the bus stop when we walk by, we take the bus, otherwise, we hoof it.

IN May we stayed for two weeks, only got into the car to go to Typhoon Lagoon. Didn't want to sit in the cold bus in wet suits.

What I love about SSR, Everything :goodvibes

I love the quietness especially the villas. Love the theme, I feel like I am at a luxury Spa the entire time, it even smells like a spa.

I love the spa being right there.

Love the quick service and the restaurant.

Love the pools, SSR has some of the nicest pools on property.

Love the view of Downtown Disney across the lake and the boat ride over.

Love, love the staff, everyone is so helpful and friendly.

Love the beautiful landscaped grounds.

Love that the location is a short bus ride to everything.

Have a wonderful time, you will I know.

We also stayed in the THV and walked everywhere on the resort. We never use a car in WDW unless we are going off property, and only rent it for the time we need, and we found the buses fine. The whole resort is beautiful, and once you figure out the layout you won't have any problems. Have fun:thumbsup2

SSR is our home resort and we LOVE it! The size looks intimadating, but it's not that bad. We always stay in Congress Park as it's a short walk to DTD as well as the AP and Springs pool. The resort is very peaceful and very quiet. It feels more like vacation than craziness even when we're going commando!

It is a big resort but honestly, if you stay at Grandstand or Congress Park, the walk to the main area is barely 5 min. If you're strolling, maybe 10 min. You will love it there, it is one of the best resorts on property. LOVE IT.

Do the pool snack bars have refill stations? When the Paddock Pool was being remodeled, I saw one was being added to the snack bar and it reminded me of the one at BLT where you can get refills.

There are refill stations at both the Grandstand Pool bar, and also the new Paddock pool. Every time I post I praise the under 48" splash area at the Paddock pool with tables, chairs, and enough umbrellas to provide shade for anyone supervising little ones.

Thanks, dgaston. No little ones for us, but we will probably bring our nieces, ages 8 and 12 over to SSR for swimming during our August trip.

SSR Owner here. We tried other places while they are nice. We love SSR. We love the relax feeling we get from the place after a crazy day at the parks. Its so peaceful. We have always stayed at the Springs area or Grandstand but I think for our upcoming trip we are going to try the PADDOCK with the new pool.

Love Congress Park and the view of DTD at night.I also agree that you shouldn't get a car just to get around the resort .

We own points at BWV, HHI, SSR, BLT, AKV and we love SSR so much that we just added some more points at SSR last fall. We've been DVC members since 2000 & we have stayed at all of the DVC resorts on WDW property, HHI, and Vero (haven't made it out to the West Coast yet) and I can tell you that SSR is one of our FAVORITE places to stay! I agree with the others - Grandstand and Congress Park are our favorite sections. The last time we stayed at Congress Park we timed our walk to Downtown Disney - 6 minutes! I mean you cannot beat that! In a mood for some Ghirardellli? No problem 6 MINUTE WALK!

I have never booked SSR - even though I want to try them all - because I know we can always get a reservation here (last minute). Well that time has come. I just booked two weeks ago an unplanned/unexpected stay here for next month. Jambo was the only other available one but no savannah view so I said this will be a great time to stay at SSR. This trip will be myself, dd and a friend.

I had and have no intention of wait listing (have had great success with this) and I am really looking forward to adding SSR to my list of DVC resorts I have stayed in.

We have enjoyed every DVC resort we have stayed in - go in with a positive attitude, you are in Disney and you will have a great time! Enjoy and let us know how you like it too!

(and we do not have a car - not worried about the busses either - happy to be going).

Thanks for the replies everyone! I think we will skip the car and you all saved us a few hundred dollars! (extra dooney and burke money woo hoo)

I was going to ask for a room near the main pool, but that 6 minute walk to DTD is really looking great. Imagine Earl of Sandwhich anytime I want HEAVEN!!

I am feeling much better about this.

I do have one other question, when I was at OKW, the refillable mug station by the quiet pool didn't open until well after breakfast, way too late for drinks for us. Are the mug stations not at AP, open at 7 am?

Thanks,
Traci

We adore SSR. And I don't think the walk should sway you one way or the other. However, since that is a main concern of yours, I would look at it this way...

You KNOW you are going to go to the Carriage House/Refill Station daily for drinks, etc. Maybe multiple times/day. And you will likely only go over to DTD a few times during your stay. So I would err on the side of staying in the Springs with easier access to food and drinks and then walking to DTD since you will be going to DTD fewer times than you will be going to the main building. Did that make sense? Sorry if I didn't explain it well!

We just got back from the Springs yesterday (miss it already!) and our location was FABULOUS. The Springs is the section closest to the main building and High Rock Springs pool (main pool). Just a short walk across the street. Like maybe 1-2 minutes. And that is if strolling. But what we found was that it was also only a 2 minute walk to the new Paddock pool! (Which has a drink refill station.) So we were super close to both of the bigger pools and super close to drink refills and all of the other amenities. And we walked to DTD every day, too. But we walk back and forth from our villa to the pool many, many times in a day. But only once/day to DTD.

I guess I could make this easier by just saying...think about what your days are like. Will go be going back and forth to the pool more than once/day? Back and forth to drink refill stations? Or back and forth to DTD? Which will you do the MOST? And then make a request accordingly.

But really, there is absolutely no need to stress and no need to rent a car.

And that is the section I requested Springs. I am also looking forward to walking in the morning - there has got to be a nice path for walking or I will just walk to DTD for my morning walk. I usually walk 5 miles in the morning so this might be the perfect place to do it.
