SSR - what are my chances for early Dec?

Hi all,

My dh & I have been talking about going back to Disney in December '06 (we just became DVC members May '06). We'd like to stay at SSR (our home resort). Any ideas about our chances of getting a studio for first week in December?

We're going to make a decision by this weekend, of either we're going or we're not. (We also would need to make arrangements for my father to stay at an assisted living place while we were gone, so the place is suppose to call me back to see if they have space available that week). We're already scheduled to go to SSR in May '07, but we just can't wait and really need a break (and what better way than to relax at Disney?)

Meanwhile I'm dreaming of Disney (really!) and wondering what our chances might be to be able to stay at SSR.

It depends upon what size unit you want, and whether you want to go on a wait list. A studio would probably require a waitlist, you may have more luck with a one bedroom.

We have friends that just bought into SSR this month. They are trying to get a 1BR anywhere for the first week of December. They are currently waitlisted for any DVC resort. They have a reservation at the Poly already but they are hoping to get a DVC resort somewhere.

We currently have a BCV 1BR for Dec. 2-8 but we've been on the waitlist for a 1BR at VWL since 7 months out and still haven't gotten in.

The first week of December is REALLY booked right now. I'd suggest you call ASAP and get on the waitlist. You will probably eventually get either SSR or OKW.

I have been waitlisted for a studio at any. Don't really care which resort. Have points at SSR and BWV. Sister and I want to go that week too. Learned my lesson this time. Next year will reserve at 11 month window if there is even a chance of going that week. (It is one of my favorite weeks. Okay, any week there is my favorite week).

You know, I have to agree with you there. I have learned my lesson too! I fell for "SSR will always have space" line that we see so often on this board. Well NYE sold out very quickly and so did Christmas week and NYE week at SSR. I have been slowly but surely piecing my ressie together from the waitlist. I am still waiting on NYE and Jan 1 to come thru.

Next year, Im with you! I will be booking my December ressies ASAP!

OP, use the waitlist, that is the only way. Hopefully, SSR will release a new bldg into inventory before December and that will free up some ressies.

We just tried to book a studio for my parents 11/26-12/01:
VWL was unavailable.
OKW had only 2 days available.
SSR No problem.

I'd suggest calling today, even if your dates are tentative. There is no harm or risk in getting a reservation, or putting yourself on the waitlist. Why put yourself on the list 4 days later than you need to and let others get on before you?

I fell for "SSR will always have space" line that we see so often on this board.

I don't think I've seen that posted much. What I do think I've seen is that SSR will be the last resort to get filled due to its size (just like OKW used to be the last one to fill). But I don't recall many people saying that getting into SSR with only a few months lead time during the heavy December booking time will always be easy. If someone said that, I think they are quite mistaken.

Just a word about the WL:

We booked T-giving (Wed-Sun) 5 months out (the day after we bought DVC), and had to use the WL...we were told it was one of the 3 time frames hardest to get...I was sure we'd have to do cash reservations for Wed/Thurs at least and maybe Wed/Thurs/Fri (we got Sat/Sun/Mon right away, at SSR)...

Well, our WL came thru after 5 weeks...our first three nights are in a 1-br; last 3 in a studio...we're still WL'ed for a studio the first three nights...all at SSR (our home resort and first choice for where we wanted to stay on this trip)...

Anyway, bottom line: do use the WL...it's an amazing resource...you can always make a cash reservation (and cancel it if you have to) so you know you'll have a room at Disney even if the WL falls thru...

We have a studio but are going to try to switch to a 2 BR that first week. If we get that week, maybe we will free up our studio for you!

Thank you all for responding to my thread - I so appreciate it!

I just made reservations to SSR and got a confirmation too! We've got a studio - we'll be arriving on Dec. 12 and departing on the 20th.

I'm so excited! This is our Christmas present to ourselves. Now I'm going to work on making arrangements for our pets and for my dad to stay at an assisted living place while we're gone. That I'm going to take care of this week.

I can't wait!
