SSR vs Disney Springs hotels

We currently have five adults booked for a two-bedroom villa at SSR in the last week of June. Several of us are teachers and we just saw the discounts for essential workers at the Disney Springs hotels. We are paying $7500 for a week at SSR and can get a two bedroom suite at Double Tree for $2500. Are there any real benefits to staying at a hotel owned by Disney right now?

Also, we already booked the dining since our trip is in less than 60 days. If we cancel SSR to book at the Double Tree would we lose dining reservations?

Thanks!

Your dining reservations are separate from your resort room reservation that's the easy part.

Your two-bedroom at SSR has a full kitchen, full size fridge, and a washer/dryer which is a major difference from the Double Tree. Also there are differences in the bus services and the ability to charge back to your room from the parks and restaurants. However you can just use your credit card or cash as you go during the day.

Early entry for Disney resort guests has not returned yet but who knows what will be happening by the last week of June. I could be quite flexible to save $5K and use Uber / Lyft to supplement any transportation shortcomings of the Double Tree.

Note: don't cancel your SSR reservation until you have your Double Tree reservation(s) confirmed. The last week of June and the July 4th week are expected to be very busy this year.

Thanks! Yeah since the Double Tree would allow free cancelation until the day before check in I think I may just grab it for now and wait as long as I can to see if any of the old on-property perks return.

Good to know about the restaurant reservations, that was my big hold up. The kitchen I kind of doubt we would use much anyway as we are open-close park people and will mainly eat at the parks, and will have a car as well, so it sounds like the only real loss is the washer/dryer which I can live with!

As someone who has stayed many times at SSR you are comparing apples and oranges. I almost chose Doubletree over staying at SSR for our upcoming Feb. 2022 vacation for the savings but for us the pools and poolside bar (the one at doubletree is currently closed) and the balcony and grounds to walk on contribute to the overall experience. It truly is a resort experience.. The quick service is one of the best. Apparently the doubletree restaurant is closed. Just something to keep in mind. But if you are spending all day at the parks and aren't big into pool time or anything go for the savings.

Yeah in all honestly I don't think we'll be spending more than a few minutes per day at the hotel while awake, so saving 2/3 the cost just makes sense of there are no other perks. The only thing that makes me hesitate is that it looks easier to walk to/from Disney Springs for SSR, but for $5k we can afford an uber.

If you are going to have a car, then I would definitely pick the Doubletree. We stayed at the Buena Vista Palace in a suite and would stay there again without hesitation.

Depending on where your room is at SSR, it'll most likely be a quicker walk from Doubletree. I think I read in some Doubletree reviews the walk is like 20 minutes tops. However, our rooms at SSR at times have been a longer walk. However, we enjoy it. We go to Florida in February to escape the VT winter so we don't mind the walks and just being outside.
Also, it's cool you are a group of teachers going together. I'm a teacher, and totally get the need to just kick back and unwind after the school year..especially this year. Have fun!! I'd love to hear what you think of Doubletree when you get back! I might go with my folks and daughter at some point and we would stay there and my folks would probably rent a car.

Thanks! Yeah, we're a group of friends, some teachers but not all. We definitely need it at this point haha

I'll let you know what we end up doing!
