SSR View Preference?

What view would you prefer at SSR?

  • DTD view: You can't beat watching fireworks!

  • Quiet view away from DTD: Can't stand the noise and lights!

  • Both at various times: We like different views.

  • How do I know? The thing isn't even open yet!!

With all the various threads about the views everyone prefers, I thought maybe we could express some thoughts on the SSR views.

I decided a poll would be a good starting point, though the comments will really be more interesting.

The question is: it appears that some rooms at SSR will be facing DTD and the nightly fireworks. Others will be facing away from DTD, I guess at the golf course? Just wondering if you're the type who would really want to be able to see DTD and the fireworks from your own room balcony, or if you'd prefer the quiet of a different view?

I thought it would make interesting discussion.

Oops...forgot to put my own comments in there!

We'd probably opt for a quiet view (pool or golf course). There's a viewing area if we'd want to watch the fireworks. And our children are old enough that we could leave them in the room to do so if we wanted to go watch the fireworks from the viewing area.

I am wondering if the "DTD View" will become as hotly sought as the favorite views at all the other resorts?

For me, the DTD view is a positive. I think it will be very pretty at night, and I'm a late night person anyway. I would prefer to be facing the action. However, I would also want to be in a building that wasn't far from the eatery/boat launch/pool. I'm not sure exactly which building is the closest.

For those who like to turn in early, I would guess they thought of the noise issue, and I'll bet the buildings are well-insulated to sound. The light issue is also easily taken care of with certain kinds of curtains that block light completely. I would guess these details are being taken care of, too.

Gimme that DTD view every time! The lights, the fireworks - that's what I love about SSR. Of course, our other favorite vacation destination is Las Vegas - and WDW doesn't even come close in the bright lights department.

One curiosity here: People pay a premium for MK View (CR) and Lagoon View (Polynesian (and GF?)) - why isn't this the 'desirable' view for SSR? Is the noise really that much louder?

Another note: for any of you who have been to DL, did you see how the Grand Californian Resort has rooms that open up right on DL's DTD! No fireworks, true, but a lot closer to the action than SSR is to WDW DTD (EIEIO!)

I own at SSR, but I think it is probably a little different to want to have the "castle" framed in your window, than to look out at dtd - it is different to watch the kiss goodnight on the castle than to listen to manakins, right?

Also, I thought that the PI fireworks were pretty minor...am I remembering that wrong?

People also like the "noisy" BW view too....and of course we really don't know what the exact views and noise level will be.

I remember a lot of discussion about the BCV views before it opened. Just thought I'd toss this one out too to see what people thought.:)

Well, I voted that I don't know yet. I am sorta wishing I voted for a combo of both, as I think that would be two entirely different resort experiences.

I can't wait until October, as I will nose around SSR (as much as possible). I am also looking forward to seeing the models in person. I will hopefully get a good feel for SSR, and figure out if we want points there.

LOL

What about the dumpster view?

Think they will have different point schedules for water and driveway views?

I second the above.

Not really sure. OKW is always so quiet. I will be down in February and have every intention of buying poits at SSR. Will be staying at the BW this trip, so that will give some insight into the noise.

Can't wait to get back down there.

Oh yay, a whole other arena to play in. I just got back from WDW and am a new DVC owner! I'm really excited about it and from the looks of it SSR is going to be pretty nice. Right now I'm voting for both, because I think both views will have their appeal. But Granny I must say I was a bit upset with the verbage "We" like different views. I am a single owner, thank you very much. There is no "we" here. ;)

We were just at DD last week. We were about to leave the Adventurer's Club for the "New Years Eve" fireworks when fellow adventurer Otis Throckmorton Wren attempted to save us from "that mediocre display" and stay with him for ongoing shenanigans. We left because Otis is a "donkey" but you know, as soon as the brief fireworks had ended we said to each other "Otis was right". That said, I do believe that the fireworks will look better from accross the lake rather than essentially underneath them.

My deal is this. I want to be immersed in Saratoga Springs period. I don't even want to be reminded that I am in Florida let alone Orlando or DD. Mark me down for the quiet immersion, drop me in the water, take me to the river, same as it ever was.

I think any fireworkds will look great from across the lake, even though I have never seen the "mediocre" display. ;)

The thought also occurred to me that maybe they will change the fireworkds display in some way after SSR is open. A display intended for immediate area viewing at PI might be very different from a show intended for viewers across the lake, so maybe they will make some modification.

Why Karen, I was just referring to yourself and the others who voted the same as you did! :p

And of course, you could still take guests with you.

That's what I meant.

That's my story and I'm stickin' to it! :p
