Hello,
We just booked a treehouse for our 10 day trip in August 2011.

We have 3 kids, DD10, DD6 and DD1. Is there a centralized pool near the treehouses and how far are we from the lobby and places to eat?

Joe

There's a small pool in the treehouse area.

Someone else will have to tell you about distances. I know I'm most likely going to use our car to go to the places you mention, but I don't walk very well. We stay there in November. After you check in and when your treehouse is ready you and your luggage can be brought over in a golf cart by bell services.

The pool is a very basic pool (one big rectangle), as it was simply refurbished from the original Treehouses resort. It is located down near the southern bus stop (there are 2 - north and south), near the boat dock, and near the walkway over to the Grandstand part of SSR. That walk, from the bus stop to the Grandstand is about 5 minutes. To get over to the Carriage House and the feature pool/Artist's Palette area is about 10 mins at a leisurely pace, a little less if you walk faster, but with kids in tow I'm guessing not.

The north bus stop is up closer to the road entrance/exit from the THV's, and from that bus stop to the south stop is about a 3-5 min walk. So if you were at the furthest units to the north, figure about a 5-7 min walk to the south stop, and then on from there to the main parts of SSR.

As already mentioned, I would plan about 10-12 minute walk from most of the treehouses to the main part of SSR. If you are near the path it will be a little shorter and if you are furthest away maybe a couple extra minutes.

They also run a shuttle at from the THV's to the main area of SSR. It runs every 10 minutes, so you can take that and it goes directly to the Springs section (main pool/lobby).....honestly, probably takes same amount of time to walk it, but saves your feet.

If you don't have a car I recommend requesting near the south bus stop...if you have a car you plan on using, I recommend requesting near the north bus stop. The roads are very small in the THV area, so being near the entrance will help if you have a car.

Everything is just mins away walking distance.. they do have small pools near the treehouses..

You will love them!!!

You are probably also about a 5-7 minute walk away from the boat dock for Downtown Disney which has some nice dining options as well. The boat ride itself is about 10 minutes or so. You could also take the boat from SSR to OKW and dine at Olivia's cafe as well which is about a 5-7 minute ride.

There is only one pool near the THV (it is not themed, as PP said, just a rectangle pool that you might find in a back yard), but it is seldom used.

So very true. The only thing they really did to "theme" it, is to add one or was it two, small critter shaped fountains that "spit" into a corner of the pool. Otherwise, yeah, basic and bland. BUT, it fits in very nicely with the overall quiet aesthetic of the Treehouses. Anything with a bunch of slides or other "fun" would add a lot of noise to the otherwise peaceful tranquility that that little section of SSR provides.

We will be driving from NJ, so I think it wouldn't matter which area of the villas we stay, would it?

Having a vehicle... no. Without a vehicle, it's nice to be down on the south loop for quick access to the boats, bus and walkway to the main part of SSR.

It depends, I personally would request near the north bus stop. The roads are narrow so if you are on the south side, it will take longer to get out...the North side is where the entrance is. Now, it isn't horrible or anything, but if you get caught behind strollers/pedestrians/buses it could delay you a bit.

If you look at the map, when you drive in it is basically one way down the left side of the resort and loops back up one way the right side of the resort. There are a number of turnarounds, so regardless of where you are near the north you can get turned around and out of the villas rather quickly. There is more (really not much, but more then the north) pedestrian traffic on the south side due to the boats/pool/walkway to SSR.

Even from the north side, it is a quick walk to the boats if you wanted...the biggest impact is the walk to SSR, but that isn't even more then probably 3-4 more minutes.

The pool feels secluded and the area also has a hot tub. Every time my wife and I went to the pool area we had it to ourselves. If you are there at the right time of year there are even wild blackberrys growing on the bushes by the paths.

We eat breakfast in our room but for lunch or dinner we would sometimes catch the boat which stops at the main SSR building and then Downtown Disney ( Not efficient but very pleasant when you are on vacation)!
