SSR Tour

I went to the Open House on May 7. We parked in CdS parking lot and was shuttled (or walked) to Main Entrance.

Received a tour guide (map with tour route).

#1 was the Main Entrance.

#2 was the Carriage House Lobby. This is where you check in. There is a beautiful carousel horse on a pole in the middle of the lobby centered on a carpet that looks like a round carousel. There are four pictures behind the front desk depicting the four stages of the Kentucky Derby and painted by the authorized painter of the Derby. The center of the ceiling goes to a peak.

From the lobby there is a child's waiting room, then an adult waiting room, with DVC desk, then Artist's Palette

#3 was Artist's Palette. The glass lights over the eating area were really pretty and brightly colored. They are on the left as you enter. On the right is the merchandise area followed by the food court.

#4 is the Turf Club. This area has a pool table, sitting area with some fabric chairs and some leather chairs also. Also is a bar you can order drinks. There is no seating at this bar, only about a 3-4 foot counter with open window. We then left this building and went to the next one.

#5 is the Spa. This is where the exercise machines are as well as where you get spa treatments. On to the next building.

#6 is the Arcade.

#7 was the High Rock Spring Pool. It is not nearly as big as I thought it would be. The slide is smaller than I thought also. There is a water area for kids with Donald Duck that sprays kids. There are two whirlpools, one with a swing chair for getting handicapped people into the whirlpool. There is also a short little slide that wheelchairs can roll up to, allowing a handicapped person to go down the slide.

#8 is the Community Hall.

#9 is the Storybook Room. This has pictures of different resorts (DVC and Passport, etc.). The ceiling is dark navy blue with little lights that look like stars and is really nice. There are little cubicles that have flat-screens and computers so each guide can customize the presentation for the potential DVC member. If someone is interested in snow skiing, the guide can bring up more of the resorts that have snow skiing, etc. Nice. At this point, we were given a square metal SSR pin.

#10 is the DVC preview center where the models are housed. The reception area is really pretty. Carved wood front of the counter area. I think the carvings had characters in it, but I can't remember now. The back wall is a waterfall wall. Water runs down the wall. The wall has an etching of characters (I think Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Donald). The water cascades over this etched picture. Really nice!!!

#11 was the guest rooms in Buildling 2B. This was quite a ways from 1-10. I walked, but wouldn't want to walk over to the pool from these buildings. Others still under construction will be closer to the main pool. I toured a studio, a 1BR lock-off, a 1BR studio, and a GV. The windows in the GV are really nice. Not a lot of differences, other than decor, but one big difference was that the 2nd floor of the GV has an exterior door right above the first floor door. Not sure what you would do if you wanted to keep kids or teens from sneaking out, but I think it was to accommodate handicapped people who can't use the stairs. They can use the building elevator to get to and from the 2nd floor of the villa.

#12 was the leisure pool and whirpool area.

The room numbers that were open for viewing were: Studio #2612, 1BR (lock-off, I think) was 2614 and GV was 2607. I didn't get the other 1BR that I think was the dedicated one.

Building 2B had great views of DTD and PI, as did the building next to it.

If you have any questions, I'll try to answer. I took pictures, but there are plenty that have been posted here already.

Thanks for the great report. I'm happy to hear how well the pools and whirlpool will accomadate a person in a wheelchair. I bought into SSR so my son could completly enjoy our vacation as much as possible. That was a BIG selling point for me. Susan

Thanks for the scoop. With all the talk of pool -hopping not being allowed here, I expected the pool would be fabulous!

Thanks for the report! I really appreciate it.

So, besides the pool being too small, what was your overall impression? Would you want to stay there sometime?

I didn't say the pool was too small, just smaller than I thought it would be. It really looked big in the artist rendering.

You bet I'd stay there. In fact, I plan to stay there on our next trip in March when we go down for spring training. We're not doing any parks, so no need to stay at Epcot resorts. We'll also be driving alot so having our rented vehicle close will be a big plus.

I hope my description didn't sound negative. It's one of my favorite resorts. I prefer the decor there over the others. In fact, we'll probably stay there lots.

Thanks for that report - we're staying there in July (only for a few days just to "check it out") so the scoop was really helpful. ::yes::

Thanks for the info, I am just soaking it all up until August.

Thanks for taking the time to write up that great report. It sounds like SSR will be another great DVC resort, and we look forward to staying there at some point.

Somehow, I have this feeling that one of the most regular requests will be "proximity to the pool/food court". :)

Thanks for the great report. We'll be there in 9 days and I can't wait!!! I guess I'm doing the single digit dance huh??!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Thank you for taking the time to write your SSR tour report. I look forward to seeing SSR on my next trip to WDW.

THANKS FOR YOUR GREAT REPORT. WE CAN'T WAIT FOR OUR VACATION IN AUGUST FIRST TIME AS DVC MEMBERS::MinnieMo :bounce:

I love all the great reports that SSR is receiving.

Cant wait to get there!

Thank you for the detailed report...it wasn't too negative at all--just stating the facts! I'm new to DVC, so it's nice to hear that you plan on staying here lots...since I imagine you can compare this resort to all the others! :earsgirl:

Thank you for taking the time to write your report.

Sounds like SSR is a wonderful resort...definitely have to try it out one day soon!
