Mostly likely a Studio unit will meet my needs. In reading these threads, I have tried to understand what a lock off unit means. In the SSR section of this board it shows sq foot of Studio of 355 ft but it shows a column for a Studio Lock Off unit of 432 ft. Are these two different type of rooms?

Also point wise when I need the extra room, getting two Studios appears to be better deal than getting a 2 BR especially with my confusion of the space in a Lock Off.

What am I missing?

A lock off is when the one bedroom unit has a studio attached that has 1 queen bed, one pull out sofa bed, kitchenette and exit door to the hallway. These units can be 'locked off' meaning they can be rented separately, a studio and a 1 bd. Some people like them because if they are traveling with another couple, there is access to the outside and a kitchenette. Some families want the dedicated unit because the kids can't go outside without going into the living room first and there are two queen beds, but no sofa.

With a 2 bd you would get a full sized kitchen, washer and dryer and a living room. The master would have a king bed and bath along with a second bedroom and bath which could be a 'lock off' (couch, queen, and kitchenette, or dedicated (2 queen beds.) You would ask for a dedicated 2bd or lock off 2 bd.

So if it is locked off, they are rented separately as a Studio and 1 Bedroom If they are not locked off, what is the room considered, a 2 BR?

If you had 4 adults traveling with you, you could get a 2bd lock off or 2bd dedicated. If you get the lock off, your guests would have the bedroom with a couch and queen bed along with a kitchenette and their own exit door. If you went with the dedicated, you'd still have the master with the king, but their room would have 2 queens, no kitchenette and there is an extra closet, I think where the exit door would be. There would be a kitchen and living room too.

They can be rented separately, or as a 2 bd.

432 is the number of lock off units, not the square footage. All studios and 1 bedrooms at SSR are lock offs, no dedicated, per DVC Mike's info thread.

Thanks for all the replies. If/when I need a 2BR at SSR, should I ask for a dedicated room or one that is part of a lock off? Is one better than the other ?

A dedicated would have 2 queens in the second bedroom, no kitchenette, no separate entrance. A lock off would have a studio as the second bedroom (1 queen, 1 double sofa bed, kitchenette, separate entrance). It depends on the makeup of your group which one would work better.
