I booked a last minute trip to WDW and the only resort I could get was SSR. I have to admit I was a little disappointed that that's all that was available but I figured I couldn't complain because I was going to be at Disney World. It was only my 5 year old son and I and it was my first trip as the only adult. I have to say that my son and I had a great time and I really enjoyed the resort. We spent a ton of time at the pools and my son especially enjoyed the Paddock kids area. We were very fortunate to get a room in the Springs section right across from everything. It was so nice to walk over to the Community Center which I had never experienced before. My son made some magnets for the refrigerator, colored, and made several other things. It was such a nice trip and so relaxing. We did go to the parks for a few days but spent most of our time enjoying the resort. The nice thing about SSR was that it was so big and so there was so much to do and we were able to "pool hop" and not even have to leave the resort. In the end, I think SSR worked out well for us.

I think that SSR gets a bad rap but we like it there. If you are planning some Disney Springs time, the location can't be beat.

We stayed at SSR in Congress Park on our last trip. We had no complaints what-so-ever. We'd stay there again if we couldn't find elsewhere to experience.

So glad to hear you liked SSR after your initial disappointment. We don't own there but it is my happy place. :cloud9:

I'm happy to read that you liked it. I'm a new owner there but have never been--I figure there are so many times that SSR or OKW are all that's available, that if somewhere else is open, I should try it now. Still, I think the pictures look lovely. As our family ages, we will switch from low season vacations in early September to high DVC season in early December. I'm sure we'll end up at SSR at that point (kind of looking forward to being near Downtown Disney).

:flower:Thanks for taking the time to share! SSR is becoming our favorite place to stay--a relaxing nature preserve away from the throngs of people.

As an SSR owner, I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. We've stayed at SSR multiple times, and have always enjoyed it. We enjoy trying other resorts though. We have an upcoming trip to OKW in a grand villa. I have yet to stay at a Disney resort I didn't enjoy, but SSR is home, and we always make it a point to visit for a meal. The older I get, the less appeal the parks have for me, so location is perfect for what we like to do.

We love SSR, and it sounds like you had a similar trip to how we now vacation. We have been going to WDW almost once a year now since 2006. We love the parks, but the resort and "other" activities are as important to our trips as the parks. Last year we took a day and rented bikes at VWL, and rode them on the trails over to Ft Wilderness, and spent a few hours over there. Our daughter got to see all the horses, watch a horse get fitted for shoes, spend a little time at the beach at FW. She talks about that day more than what we did at the parks. You cant beat that memory!! What we like so much about SSR is what you stated, we will go to the different pools, we take morning walks which at some of the resorts (AKV, BLT) - the grounds just dont provide such an expansive or beautiful landscape. I can spend a few hours just walking SSR - go over to the treehouses, okw, dtd etc... For us, it is the perfect resort.

Glad you had a great time - I also dont understand the bad rap SSR gets, but I have no problem staying there!

My DW and I really enjoyed our stay there when we took a small trip without our kids. They were busy having fun at granny and papas. Anyhow we've talked about staying at SSR Treehouse villas our next trip with our kids. Problem is we're talking about doing mainly resort stuff with maybe one theme park day and one or 2 waterpark days. Im afraid the tree houses may be too far from all the activities and awesome pools at SSR since we will not have a vehicle.

We stayed at SSR on several occasions and enjoy it more each time. Even though it's not one of our home resorts it really has grown on us. We had some nice experiences with the CMs there. Also, I love the fact that we can always get into SSR at the last minute.

We stayed at SSR for 2 weeks in January for the first time and loved it. We were close to a quiet pool. a bus stop, the Carriage House and DTD. Loved walking around. With the bridge to DTD we often walked over there in the morning for Starbucks and back at night for dinner. It was a very peaceful nice stay.

I have to add that one of my favorite places to stay, (tied with VGF) are the THV's. We always rent a car so the busses aren't an issue for us. If we go during the summer, I actually prefer to stay in the THV's than VGF my other favorite. There is something about the peaceful, relaxing atmosphere that I just love.

I just made our 7 month ressie this morning for SSR! We are doing a relaxing vacation this time and from what I've read and seen here I know this is the place to be. I have a feeling it might become a favorite place to stay. I know everyone says that you should never really have a problem at the 7 mo mark and I'd been keeping an eye on the availability tool just to be safe. I guess I didn't have enough coffee in me when I called because I forgot to put in November dates and the screen read " partial availability" and more points than I figured. My heart sank and I started wishing I had gone on line at 8 to secure our spot. Then, I realized my mistake...I was looking at April dates. Phew! It's funny, after all this time how I can still get that little nervous excitement until my reservation is done. It's part of the magic. Thank you SSR owners and lovers for sharing that love. Although we just went thru the winter that just wouldn't end...can't wait til November!

I've never stayed at SSR, but we just got back from our Spring Break trip and we had a lunch reservation at T-Rex in downtown disney. Instead of taking a downtown disney bus we took an SSR bus from the MK. We got off and rode a boat across the water.

I was surprised how quick the trip from MK to SSR was. It was only like a 15 minute bus ride. I figured it would be much farther.

Just stayed a few weeks back and really enjoyed the resort. We only did one park day so really had the time to enjoy the pool and have dinner at turf club. Prime rib was great. We walked over the downtown in the evening and had desert. This was our first stay at SSR and after many visits to the world and staying at almost every resort we became dvc members. Resort is beautiful.

We loved our stay at The Grandstand and had a fabulous outlook towards the Treehouse Villas and the golf course....cant remember which hole it was. We also loved to walk round to the boat dock at the THV when we headed to DTD. We would stay there again quite happily.

We own there but had been staying at mostly Animal Kingdom the last few years. This February, we stayed at SSR and it really changed our views on the resort. It was too cold to swim when we were there but our kids would have loved the paddock pool. We have another trip booked in June and we hope our requests net us the same area (Grandstand). We loved being the first on, first off and we loved the quiet area, the cool pool and the fairly short walk to the clubhouse. It is such an easy peaceful place and well located to all of the parks. As much as we love AKL (Jambo), we will probably not stay there again after this trip reminded us just how far away AKL is and how nice it is to be closer to everything else.

Thank you for reminding me of the Community Center. My boys are 4 and 5 and we will definitely check it out next time we are down. We really enjoy SS. The pool is great for kids and we enjoy the quick service. We love to stay in Congress Park with a view of Downtown Disney. My sons could play at the Lego Store for hours just building and racing cars.

We had a similar experience about a year ago--last minute trip and nothing available but SSR. So while we were not fans initially, we just bit the bullet and ended up having a very nice and pleasant stay. So one year later, same scenario, a last minute trip and while we had a choice of AKV, BLT or SSR, we chose SSR. We like to mix it up a lot and don't stay at the same place twice with too little time in between, but maybe because we aren't doing a lot of parks this trip we thought SSR would be the best choice for us. Looking forward to another happy stay there!
