I bought into the SSR Vacation Club back in February and don't get me wrong- I LOVE THE RESORT! I thought I was gitting in at a great time with the current promo. The current price then was $98 per point with an $8 rebate. SO, I paid $90 per point for 150 points totaling $13,500. THEN, the price went up to $101 and I felt GREAT about my decision to buy. I realize most of you bought in before me and paid substantially less. NOW- with the $15 off promo (comes to $86 per point) my 150 points would cost $12,900. I can't help but feel I overpaid like stock and bought at an all time high. It's not as though I purchased as an investment (it is an investment to me, just not a money maker), but I was under the impression that the prices would continue to rise, not drop. The only positive outlook I have is that I did get one vacation out of my purchase saving $$$$ during that particular stay. Anyone else feel the same??? I suppose the prices at AKV will be pricey, making my purchase price look a little better.

I *think*, and somebody will undoubtedly correct me if I'm wrong - but I think that those getting the $15 off right now are getting a Dec 06 use year - which means that they will not see points until Dec 1st - when you bought in Feb - you probably got 05 points right? My in-laws bought this summer and their contract came with 05 points so they could use it right away or bank them into 06. I think it probably all comes out in the wash.

No worries. It's a crapshoot.

On my first contract I missed 2005 fall's F and F rate by mere weeks. My guide would have reimbursed if it hadn't closed (days!!!!!). I paid $90 then.....a year ago August. And the F and F then was $83 something.

I ended up buying another contract at the $83 and selling recently to buy BWV points. A lot less points due to commission and US gov'ts take on non-US resident's sales (10% that I might get back) Emotionally, a fantastic decision. Financially, not smart. But no regrets.

So don't think you are the only one. I don't worry about it. DVC was a ten year dream for us. A dream is a dream. And really I realized by selling that a few differences in point value with my contract sizes was not a huge deal. But I do hear ya........

Enjoy!!! Enjoy!!! Enjoy!!!

True, I DID get 05 points and 150 more in Sept. so that was a nice headstart and allows me to care a few points over each year. And the closing cost too, good point. No worries here really. We are excited to be a part of DVC and look forward to many wonderful vacations!

You got an extra year on your contract!

You got an extra vacation-- If you were going to Disney anyways what would your hotel have cost you? What would the retail cost of your accomodation at SSR have cost you?

We bought last year, the day before the F&F came out, but we chose the BWV so there was no deal on those points. My guide did offer my the discount but only for SSR. The way I looked at it, I was going to spend $3000 to stay deluxe that trip anyways so it really didn't matter how much I had to pay to get the BWV points.

I can assure you that you didn't buy at an "all-time" high. I don't know for sure what points are going to cost over the next 10-years, but I'll wager anything it will be higher at some point than it is now.

I bought a couple of weeks before the price dropped another 5.00 per point.
Still got a dec use year and no points from last year. Oh well at least I am now a member.

The F&F promotion came out soon after we bought. I'm not fussed about it. What can you do? We made our decision based on what we knew at the time.

We bought at the beginning of the month and got the promo price of $86 and we got an October Use Year.

Since we're not planning on going until next fall, we just banked 150pts. for this year.

We'll be upgrading our room for quite a few years because of this! :thumbsup2

You paid $600 more but no closing costs, so right there it's close. Plus you got a week's vacation that was worth much more than $600 that you wouldn't have gotten had you waited. So I'd say you came out ahead.

I think you came out ahead because you got 2005 points and the buyers now do not. Iif you rented those 2005 points, you probably would have gotten about $1500. Subract the "extra" 2006 MF you may have paid (don't know exactly when you bought and remember Disney prorates because MF are based on calendar year) and you are still ahead. That's not even counting closing costs. :teeth:

Best wishes -
