Do not know if this already old news but saw today (March 4) that the onlne reservation system and the Check Resort Availability tool now includes SSR Preferred as a booking category so you can use the online system to search availability for or reserve the Preferred category in 2017.

I would hate to end up in Springs if Im paying preferred points. Guess its back to the Grandstand.

I was looking to book a trip in late august and it's in the dropdown for places to stay.I thought it didn't start till 2017?

They preferred category is in the drop down for 2016 but is showing for all 2016 dates no availability, i.e., the category is just in the system but not usable except for 2017 dates.

My thoughts exactly! I might consider extra points for a Congress Park view of Disney Springs. But there's no way I'd want to pay extra points to stay in the Springs. And the fact that it's all one category with no real control over which section you'll get (other than hope your requests work out), I don't think we'll ever be booking the preferred category.

I hadn't thought of that. I would not be thrilled with the Springs section either. We normally request Congress Park. I don't think we'll be booking preferred either.

way to go DVC another screw up with points

You sometimes wonder about the amount of intelligent thought that goes into the point changes Disney does make. The Springs and Congress Park areas were made the preferred category because they were the most requested areas at SSR. However, most members who highly preferred Congress Park did not prefer Springs and those that preferred Springs did not prefer Congress Park. Thus, if you are going to create a preferred category at SSR with point requirements that are only a little short of what it takes to get a BWV boardwallk view, you would think they would make it so you can guarantee getting Springs or getting Congress Park. Not doing so makes the incentive to reserve (and fill) only the lower point standard rooms much stronger than it needs to be. This is the result you can get when Disney never bothers to ask the members for their views on anything before doing it.

When you say "most members who highly preferred Congress Park did not prefer Springs and those that preferred Springs did not prefer Congress Park", what is the basis for your statement?

Even if that statement is true, is it not possible that it only applies to a very small fraction of Members who have an opinion on this matter? Is it not possible that a larger number of Members routinely request Congress Park and the Springs as their top two choices?

The main advantage of Congress Park is because it's near DS and has DS views. The main advantage of the Spring it that it's near most of the resort amenities. There may certainly be people who like either, but I can see that one may be willing to pay extra point to get the specific perk they prefer, a bit less to get one of many different perks.

And then one of the other issues is that when requesting CP I believe most are hoping for a nice view of DS and not just close access to DS. Our view was of trees and and mechanical box. My sister had an HA room there one year with a better view but still lots of trees blocking a lot. I'd be very hesitant to book the preferred knowing that I might very well end up in a room like DH and I had again.

On the other hand if you really disliked The Carousel section its a way to guarantee you won't be there. But overall I think it might have been better to have more of a guarantee than just Springs or Congress Park. Guess we'll see how things go with the booking.

I readily acknowledge that individuals have their preferences. And I can rationalize why individuals may have those preferences. But the question I'm raising is "How do we know that "most members who highly preferred Congress Park did not prefer Springs and those that preferred Springs did not prefer Congress Park?" Is it based on some scientific sampling of the DVC Members? Is it based on just anecdotal comments read here on the disboards? Or is it just our own personal beliefs that we pass off as fact?

One can still make requests, not that DVC puts a lot of system effort into requests. You don't want to micromanage it too much else you'd have 5 booking categories at SSR. I'd imagine that NOT carousel is the most common request for those that have knowledge of the resort and that Paddocks would likely be the second most requested.

Yes it is and is the basis for this change. We all have to remember it is a huge DVC world out there, that is not on this forum.
