I'm intrigued with what I'm reading about the pool at the SSR. Will OKW guests be able to hop the boat over to SSR and enjoy their pool? I have this feeling that pool-hopping will soon be a thing of the past, just like at the resorts.

sters,
I'm not sure where I read this, but I believe initially at least, there will be no pool hopping at SSR.
They may be trying to phase out this perk or maybe they are just trying to judge usage patterns at SSR first.

I'm hoping that this is because its going to be of a SAB caliber...
It looks like it will be a very nice pool with, and yes, it will have a slide -- but I wouldn't expect "SAB caliber." SAB has a sandy bottom pool, a mini-lazy river, a large slide, a little kiddie slide, and SAB covers an extensive area.

Also, I'm not aware that DVC as ever published anything about the status of pool hopping to or from SSR. At least one person on this board has reported being told that there would be no pool hopping to SSR, but I'm going to wait to see what the official word is.

Right now, I see no reason to exclude DVC members who are staying at SSR from pool hopping. And I see no reason why DVC members staying elsewhere shouldn't be allowed to pool hop to SSR. In fact, it would be good business for DVC to encourage DVC memebrs to visit SSR -- in hopes that they'll like the place and end up buying an add-on contract.

A number of people have reported Guides telling them the pool hopping would not be permitted at SSR.

That unconfirmed information notwithstanding, I think there are a couple of factors that weigh against it.

1) When fully developed, SSR will have over 1100 bedrooms. Neighbor OKW has another 900-1000 bedrooms. When at or near capacity, that's an awful lot of resort guests within a short boat ride of High Rock Spring.

2) Proximity to Downtown Disney. What sort of extraordinary measures would they have to implement in order to allow legitimate DVC pool hopping, while keeping DD patrons and DD resort guests from joining the party?

Since it will take a couple of years for the resort to be fully developed--and much longer for all of the points to be sold, perhaps they will allow pool hopping from Day One and take a wait-and-see approach.

I have no real preference either way. We're all one big, happy DVC family, right? :) As long as High Rock Spring doesn't consistently have over-crowding issues, let people from OKW (or any other DVC resort) make the trek over if they so desire.

I hope pool hopping is allowed at SSR, given that it is a new pool they can certainly plan the capacity to meet pool hopping demands. It would seem easy enough to screen pool guest asking for a DVC room key for entrance, and then a wrist band. They'll probably have to implement something like that anyway given the close proximity to DD hotels to keep out pool crashers. It may be wishful thinking, but there are a few OKW patrons who lost the ability to go to SAB, I'd like to see them compensated for that by being able to go to SSR. It would seem like it could be a pleasant boat ride for a swim.
