Just curious as to the "power" of the extended term: Would you buy at SSR again if all the other resorts also expired at the same time as SSR or would you buy elsewhere? i.e. now that OKW has been offered the opportunity to extend its term, would you have bought at another resort (i.e BCV et al) if you could have had the same expiration (which presumably will be offered to all the other older resorts at some point)?

Well, we just got back a few days ago from our first stay as SSR owners, and we will definitely be adding on there! We loved the resort! We would not care if the others expired at the same time or later, we would still buy at SSR.

We own at SSR and added on there. We've stayed there several times. We've also stayed at the Boardwalk, the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge and have reservations at OKW for August. We like trying the other resorts but are happy with SSR.

Hard to answer that without putting some dollars to the options.

Back when we bought SSR it was $79 per point. BCV and BWV were $85 per point for the shorter term. Assuming the extension would be at least the same $15 they charged OKW owners, buying at BCV or BWV would end up costing us 25% more than SSR, plus higher annual dues. And we've yet to be disappointed in the resorts at which we have used our points.

We're actually in the process of doing a small add-on at BWV (even with the shorter term), but have no regrets over our initial purchase.

I choose SSR w/no regrets and we love SSR. However, if Ft. Wilderness Campgrounds ever went the way of DVC - I think DH would want to sell our SSR points and purchase points there. :rotfl:

Ft. Wilderness Cabins was the first resort DH ever stayed in at WDW and I think that sort of sold him on Disney. They were great and we had an absolute great time there. But having stayed at SSR a few times since becoming members - we love it there too! :)

We bought 270 points at SSR sight unseen, before they had even announced AKV. We were aware that we could buy older resorts, but wanted the longer term, so we saw SSR as our only real option. Since then we have added on at AKV and will likely do another small add on when KT comes up.

We've only stayed at SSR once, when the resort wasn't yet finished, and didn't exactly fall in love with the place. So on subsequent trips, we've stayed at BWV and BCV. But we're going back to SSR in June, and would like nothing more than to earnestly fall in love with it! :goodvibes

Even if we don't, I doubt we would sell our SSR points. We have had good luck at the 7 month mark (and sometimes the 4 or 5 month mark) for other resorts, so I feel that there's enough flexibility that I wouldn't pay a 10% commission to get rid of them and buy something somewhere else.

I'm completely in love with SSR. We own at our two favorite resorts and are more than happy staying at them.

We've fallen in love with SSR too. But even if we hadn't stayed there and only did the tour, the only resort(s) I can see us reasonably fighting over are AKV and KTR. The reason: the accessible pools. They are a huge plus for me since I can only get into a zero entry. (Using HSR pool has reintroduced my love of water.)

My dad really likes AKV for the theming. I'm more enamored with KTR's Magic Kingdom location. So I can see a tie between the two resorts. We both love SSR so that would probably win.

I can't see BCV or BWV winning for us. The parking and pool situations override the park location for us. OKW has substandard facilities since it is older and is lacking in ADA compliance. (It is no upgrade from our current Marriott resorts.) Points would go farther but then we didn't need to go on the cheap to buy DVC. VWL is very nice to visit, but I'm not yet convinced it would be any big improvement than our current resorts. Even decorated at Christmas it was underwhelming for me. And we'd end up using busses or boats (assuming an accessible one was in service) to get to the closest park. KTR has walking distance, even if my dad dislikes the post-modern design.

If anything I could see us maybe spreading our points around a bit more. As it is, we've added on all our extra points because SSR gives us everything we both want in a Disney resort. There was no need to invest heavily elsewhere because we're quite happy being stuck at SSR if the 7 mos. window closes elsewhere.

While the extra years at SSR made no difference to me it was definitely an important factor for my DH. However, now that we own there we are extremely happy and as of now the only other purchase we would consider is an add-on at Kingdom Towers. (By the way, where did this name come from? I must have missed something.) Marie

We bought at SSR and love it their. Would not change a thing. The beauty of DVC is that you do have the option to stay at other resorts. We loved BWV's, and just got back from OKW which we also enjoyed.

We bought into DVC because we loved the accomodations, love the whole WDW experience, and it works for us. I still find it difficult to hear people complaining that SSR or OKW is too far away etc... Believe me, after staying at BWV's, I understand how nice it is to be able to walk to a park (or two), but c'mon, deluxe accomodations at Walt Disney World?? Maybe I am too easy to please, but I think about all the wonderful vacations we have had since becoming DVC owners - there is no way you can beat being able to stay inside WDW in a 1 or 2 bedroom setup (or GV for that matter). SSR has DTD, which makes it great for us in the evening, walk over and grab dinner, and stroll around the Marketplace, West Side, and if we are lucky, we can have a few at Pleasure Island.

There are certainly things about other resorts that I love - but SSR is a great resort, we can't wait to get back to SSR this October

Walked around CP before it was even open became members that afternoon and never looked back:banana:  5 add-ons later and 11 trips to SSR so no regrets here. OKW would have been our next choice.

I visited many times since 1974, always at FW. Me and Sis in the back of a pick-up with a cap towing a popup. We saw the whole country this way. You can call it roughing, we always called it family. My fiance is not of the same mold. We stayed at the cabins last year and she liked it (first trip w/ 3 kids) as her first time there, but I believe this is her minimum accommidation. No tents or pop ups for her. So I bought DVC for her and the kids. Me and the kids can go to the woods and camp (pay cash for a night) while she has a vacation at the SPA. It's the best of both worlds.

SSR had a small resale and allowed me to do this. It's new and has a long contract. This is really me dipping my toes into DVC. I like the location near DTD and I like that it is a standalone DVC.

I voted for...would have bought elsewhere if the terms were the same.

Don't get me wrong.... I love SSR, and I don't know for sure if I would actually would have bought something else, but I feel it is really easy to get a reservation on short notice there. By buying somewhere else I could still get into SSR almost any time I wanted.

I think if SSR owners had priority for the preferred areas (Springs, CP, Grandstand) there may be an atvantage to owning at SSR.

I have thought of selling so that I could buy more at KT when the time comes, but again, I can't bring myself to do it because I really love SSR. I just wish there was some advantage to owning there. KWIM????

Booking catagories will come. Preferred or boardwalk at BWV, AKL is very broken down into catagories (new DVC). HH at OKW. SSR will soon have this. We will soon have DTD view, hosp. house, etc at SSR.

I think KT will cost many $$ with high points. It's an add on for for me. If the cost is too high, I'll add on somewhere else. Don't get me wrong, I'll try for KT in low season, but I won't cry about it.

I own at SSR but have only stayed there once. My last two trips were at OKW. I go there mainly because the studios have two queen size beds. I didn't like sleeping (or trying to sleep) on the pull-out.

Last trip, I visited SSR. I didn't realize how much I missed the openness and decor. I also visited the other resorts. I must say, I like them all. But SSR hits me as "home." I would buy there again. And would sleep there all the time if they had two queen beds in the studios.

that's like asking me which of my kids is my favorite:confused3

we happen to own at our 2 favorite resorts: BWV & SSR (also own at BCV, but will prob sell that one eventually).
we love each for totally different reasons ~ there is no comparing the two in our eyes :)

I would stay with SSR with absolutely no regrets.

If I had to pick a Disney resort that fits my taste, SSR would be my first pick (with the possible exception of the Grand Floridian). The location and theming are perfect for our tastes. AK is the only other DVC that really even has any draw for me. Waking up to see animals would be a big thrill for my son (and me).

I would stay with my wonderful SSR! We do a couple trips a year and one of them is always at SSR. I am taking my daughter for a birthday trip next year (she doesn't know) but anyways-I asked her the other day which resort is her favorite so I could try for it at 7 months. Guess what she said?? She said Saratoga. It just feels like our resort. When we stay other places it is great but I do miss my "home'.
