Ispired from an SSR thread (800 unit apartment complex).

Why did you purchase SSR

As with any major purchase, there were many factors in our decision to purchase at SSR. Overall, we loved the theme of the resort and the look of the rooms. The incentives also factored in, but when we looked at each DVC resort, SSR is the most attractive to us and really fits our tastes. If we could purchase any currently DVC resort, all things being equal, we would pick SSR again.

The debate has been great!

I answered other:

We choose SSR over BWV (we were offered both) because of 1 the additional years, 2. the accomodations (love the dark wood), 3 We are PARTIERS and the bus rides to and from PI are cut out.

Now please understand that BWV is very special to me because that is were we stayed for our wedding at WDW in 2003, however the nightlife is geared more toward family outings. We wanted the full on going to a club atmosphere. In addition the ability to go to a premier spa doesn't hurt either. Even though my youngest is only 8 (the kids are 24, 20, and 8) she knows what it means to go and get a manicure and pedicure.

We purchased at SSR because:

1. Guide said it was really the only thing available at Disney. We asked about other properties available on site, but were heavily discouraged. Guide didn't even want to go there. SSR was being pushed very hard. (VB was also available and we didn't want that.)

2. New to the process and a little afraid to go resale. Would do it now in a heartbeat.

3. 12 extra years a big advantage in our eyes.

We love DVC and hope that we will love SSR. We are staying for the first time in 2 weeks and will build our opinions then. We like the idea of a resort away from the parks yet still around entertainment. We can relax, play golf, or go downtown.

Thanks
Judy

I bought SSR because Disney actually financed me and it was the only way I could possibly get in, plus the incentive was a nice bonus, as well as the fact I get 12 more years vs. resale resorts. I am still so happy that I even got it, and it was over a year ago that I bought in and haven't even been there yet. It's amazing how your perspective changes when you don't have many options, i'm just happy to be in DVC, honestly I never thought it possible.

Primarily because of the longer contract. I wrote a post in the above mentioned "800 unit apartment complex" thread explaining this more.

we bought add on points at SSR. I own at VWL and HH. We were looking at adding on and I had a chance to buy more at VWL, but bought at SSR for the added 10 years

I too bought add on points at SSR. We own at BWVilla also, which we have stayed at. We were looking at adding and bought at SSR for the added 10 years. I personally doubt we'll every stay there.

I voted "other".
We bought into SSR for lots of reasons but, the main one being the extra 12 years. Another reason was the ease of financing and paper work with Disney. We also fell in love with the place! We love the look of the resort and rooms. We loved the community hall and the ease to get to DtD, not because we are partiers, LOL,(we have 2 small kids)but, we love to shop! We are really happy with our choice and can't wait to be there in Nov!!!

I picked other because I had more than one. I love the location and I think it is beautiful. The extra twelve years. It was easier to go thru Disney and the incentives were great.

I voted "other". I own at BCV (300 pts) which I was planning on leaving to my nephews (15 & 10) to share. However, once I thought about it, we usually stay
8 days, 5 or 6 days at the BCVs and the last 2 or 3 at the AKL.

With SSR, (200 pts + 12 yrs) I can leave the BCVs to my oldest nephew and SSR to my youngest (only 200pts but 12 extra years). Plus we can have a Grand Villa for either our 1st 2 days or our last 2.

We love SSR because the grounds are so beautiful and the furnishings are so elegant. It's such a lovely resort.

I choose other. I mainly purchashed due to the zero entry pool for DS. For me it was the ease to DTD. Susan

Yeah, the zero-entry pool was a big plus since our DS is wheelchair-bound; I hadn't thought of that when I initially answered, but that was a big plus for us. I liked the extra 12 yrs too, but the biggest reason for us was the awesome AP incentive, which we plan to upgrade to PAPs in January, if possible for the estimated $2.80 per pass. I guess the beach part of SAB at BC/YC/BCV would be zero-entry as well, but not sure if they have water wheelchairs (they must).

We already had points at BWV, and added on a few there at the same time for 365 BWV pts (one for each day of the year), 130 SSR points.

I look forward to mare votes in this poll, as I don't think 84 is all that representative at this point.

All the reasons have already been mentioned.

I do have one more thing to say...
Does everyone look into this purchase with a magnifying glass as large as Spaceship Earth or is it something that these boards bring out in people?

I wouldn't even spend this much time rehashing the buying of a permanent residence type home! Jeesh!!

I voted other.
We liked the extra 12 years to the contract. We also liked the theming and location. Is it my first choice to stay at? I haven't decided yet. We stayed last August and had a great time. I loved the pool. But, we haven't stayed anywhere else yet. We really want to try out all of the resorts.

I bought at SSR becasue of the ease of purchase, financing and the extra 12 years.

I would like to try to stay at each of the villas over the next 10 years, but if I cannot and am forced to stay at SSR, I would not be crushed.. it is a beautiful resort and my wife loved it. That being said, I will most likely be booking SSR at 11 months and then trying to swap into BCV, BWV and/or VWL at 7 if I can at least a few times.. I hope its not too too difficult.

No, I didn't vote, LOL. The numbers are surprising even cynical me. A poll looking at members who are already an owner at SSR and from this board where they will tend to be far better informed, only 20% bought SSR for SSR. I would have figured the poll would have been higher as people rationalized their purchase. Figure the percentages for those about to buy and without the benefit of this boards knowledge, to be half what it would be here. So only somewhere between ?0% and 20-25% or so bought SSR simply for SSR. And I'm sure many who voted bought as an add on and were already members, that also would skew the results in favor of SSR. As I acknowledge on the thread that generated this poll, there are gradations of all of these issues and does not take away from the resort itself at all. And I realize that some of the ones that marked other things still may enjoy SSR most. But at least it appears to prove the point I was making, that a significant percentage bought for other reasons than they simply wanted to own and stay at SSR. And unfortunately, that a significant portion of people will be looking elsewhere at the 7 month window, especially in 5-10 years from now once the resort is close to selling out and a portion of the owners at SSR have stayed there a couple of times.

We bought at SSR because of the ease of financing and the extra 12 years. Also, the $10 per point incentive really helped. We were considering OKW resale, but when you added in maintenance fees and closing costs to the cost at OKW we got an extra 12 years at SSR for only a few $ more per point.
