Due to limited availability I currently hold a reservation for my complete stay at SSR with a request for grandstand section. I am also waitlisted for VWL cancelling at the 31 day mark. Would like opinions on whether or not to just cancel VWL waitlist bc of construction and just be satisfied with SSR. TIA for any input Also if I don't cancel, should I switch it to 7 day cancel

For me, I'd keep the waitlist. VWL is awesome. It's quiet and relaxing. There is just a little boat ride to MK. Plenty of lovely dining options there and can go over to the monorail for more options. Even with construction I'd go for VWL over SSR.

As much as I love VWL, I would vote for SSR until construction is complete at WL. The fact that you expressed a concern about it indicates that you would probably prefer to avoid the major construction zone that encompasses much of the WL grounds these days.

Is there a pool open with the construction at VWL? Thanks.

The main pool is open with life guards.

We enjoy SSR also. Just stayed there last month - a week prior to the Towne Center opening. :( There's a lot going on at Disney Springs these days and the Grandstand section is our preferred section. My heart is with the VWL. Even with construction, I'd be inclined to stay there. We were at VWL December 2015 and will be again Dec 2016. Such decisions for you! Ultimately you'll need to decide if the construction issue will a problem for you and your family. Good Luck!

IMO it depends on how you'll use it. If you'll spend much of your time at MK and/or plan to eat at VWL, I'd likely keep the wait list. If you plan a lot of pool time, I'd keep SSR but might change the request to Paddocks. Personally I'd likely wait list other options and keep WL for later once the construction is done.

IMHO ... with the construction @ VWL I would stay SSR. Buses are central to everything and you are a boat ride away from the new Disney Springs

When is construction supposed to be done at VWL? We are getting ready to book for January 2017.

Construction will most likely continue through the end of 2017. When you book for January 2017 you will see the warning about construction at the resort.

Seems to be a fairly even split between going for SSR or holding out on the waitlist for VWL. As others have said, it depends on your view of construction. For us in February, the work didn't bother us at all as the noise was minimal and the Lodge was still lovely. . .and that's coming from someone who is not thrilled with the work being done (long term, I don't believe the true serenity will return). However, the music is still majestic; the lobby is still magnificent; the boats still run; the restaurants are still open. There's just a certain feel about WL and VWL we love. That being said, if you think construction issues (mostly minor) will bother you, go with SSR.

While I enjoy SSR, it's an interesting statement on the comparative desirability of the resorts when another resort that's not the highest demand overall and that others are running away from due to construction is a pick em.

I did not notice when you said your trip was planned for. VWL and SSR are our favorite resorts and you cannot go wrong with either choice IMHO. We love VWL best during the Fall and Winter months. It has such a cozy, woodsy warm feeling to it. The fireplaces are so inviting when it is cold and the hidden Mickey scavenger hunt is really fun. In warmer weather, we like SSR. It has a calmness about it being away from the parks. We enjoy the ability to walk to Disney Springs to get something other than what is offered at the resort for meals. Many of the restaurants also accept the dining plans. Then there is Ghiradelli's...

You have a 50/50 shot of getting construction views at Wilderness Lodge. If you plan to spend a lot of time at the resort or more likely in the room I would say SSR. If you are going to swim you won't be affected too much and you are just a boat ride away from MK. Personally I would choose WL between those just because I am not a fan of SSR.

If I were you I'd keep SSR. We are going in October and when we were planning I was all set to try book VWL until I read about the construction, I booked PVB instead. I just knew the construction would drive me nuts and my with husband's deteriorating health I know we'll be spending a lot of time at the resort. There's always next time!!
