I am planing on taking my wife to WDW for our anniversary, the only DVC resorts with studios available are SSR or OKW. which resort do you prefer? and if it's SSR which building do you recommend? thanx for the help. Nate.
P.S. our anniverary is Aug. 6th, and this would be our first trip without kids.

You can't go wrong with either. If I had to choose, I guess OKW has a more
romantic feel. But romance is what you make of it. Congratulations.

If it was for just 2 people, I would choose SSR because the room would have the bed and a couch to sit on, as opposed to 2 beds. If you plan to spend any significant amount of time in the room that would be more comfortable.

With it just being the two of you I would go with SSR. DH and I did this last May and we loved being able to walk to DTD. Since we were not doing the parks we made ADR's at several of the resturants that we normally do not have time for. Being able to walk to DTD and catch a bus to the other resorts is much easier than having to go to the park and transfer.

Enjoy your anniversary.

ssr has the couch.

OKW has 2 queen beds.

so guess I would go with SSR - just for the couch.

SSR - Congress Park (DTD), Springs or Grandstand - both close to the CH

Is there any way you can swing a one bedroom? The jacuzzi, some candles and champagne can make for a great anniversary!

John

John, I like your thinking, but I already have a one bedroom for my trip 5/3-5/10 at boardwalk. I rent points, and the only people i rent from want 12pp. it would be in my budget if i could rent for 10pp. otherwise i'm out of luck with a one bedroom for my anniversary trip. thanx for the replies. so far i'm sold on SSR. If anyone disagrees, let me know. thanx nate. group hug anyone. :grouphug:

I agree w/ JDVM! Those tubs in the one bedrooms are very nice and romantic! Either way, I think I'd probably do SSR because of the location to DTD.........lots of great restaurants, La Nouba, the movies, shopping, just a great night life for a romantic get away!

I would say ssr is better Ive stayed at both and just returned from okw. I would stay in congress park downtown view is awesome plus you can walk there. I have nothing against okw im staying there in oct

You can pretty much flip a coin and be perfectly happy either way, IMO. I do think that SSR has a couple advantages, such as proximity to DTD (if you happen to like DTD), the sofa/bed vs. bed/bed configuration, and the newness of SSR, which means you will be less likely to get a tired-looking room. You will be paying a bit more point-wise for SSR vs. OKW, though.

No harm in posting a Reservation Wanted for a 1BR @ $10 though. You might not get any offers, but then again....

The difference between a 1BR and a studio would be well worth it to me.

Absent that, though, the configuration of the SSR studio would win out over OKW's more lush atmosphere.

I'm all for OKW, but that's where my husband and I honeymooned for our Disney wedding so I'm biased.

Don't forget the SPA at SSR. Wife and I just got back a few weeks ago and loved SSR. The SSR spa is nice and the non service items are free - gym, steam room, sauna, and whirlpool. Very nice relaxing time. We went to the parks durring the day, hit the spa and took a stroll to DTD.

How do you get around at SSR? Walking only?

Also, is there a beach at either SSR or OKW? I don't see one in the Dream book for SSR, but they don't show one for OKW either, just pictures of kids at a beach.

I'm taking my Mom in June and also deciding between these two! Love the thread, bootcamp! :goodvibes

SSR is large but people make it sound like a 2 mile walk to everywhere you go. But yes walking is how you get around the actual resort. There is no beach at SSR (not sure about OKW) and SSR has a great SPA BTW. SPA and gym entry is free and they have some discounted services if you stay at SSR.

OKW is quieter. If you are looking for romance I would want the quieter atmosphere. We are renting also. Ask about a price reduction. We did. They were asking 11 to 12. We were able to get $10.50 per point. Nothing ventured nothing gained right. If you can manage a 1 bedroom then go with OKW. DTD is a short bus ride away and not much longer by boat. The boat ride is very nice. The building are spread out enough that you are not on top of each other. You don't have to pay extra for a water view. The way the walkways to your room is situated you are not going to hear someone walking by all the time. Plus if you have a car you pretty much get to park right outside your door. Can you tell I really like OKW. Well have a magical time whichever one you choose.
