SSR or AKV Grand Villa at 7 months

Thinking about booking a grand villa at either SSR or AKV for mid October. Both are my home resorts, but I have to pool the points in order to have enough for our stay. Therefore, no booking until the 7 month window opens up.

I don't see many people talking about booking Grand Villas so I was wondering how hard SSR and AKV grand villas are to get at the 7 month window?

Would you have enough points if you borrowed from the next year? When I booked my OKW GV for June, I borrowed most of my next year points.

I am borrowing 2012 points from both resorts to make up what I need. I could get 3 nights now for AKV or 2 nights for SSR.

2011 Points - 72 (SSR) 2102 Points (SSR) - 180
2011 Points - 120 (AKV) 2012 Points (AKV) -120

It's going to cost me 437 for SSR or 489 for AKV. We aren't going back in 2012 so I'm ok with using all of our points up.

Personally, I would book 3 nights SSR & 3 nights AKV, and then at 7 month mark see if you could switch one over to the other.

That way you have a confirmed GV for all your nights.

There aren't many GVs in general. Although with SSR having 36 GVs and AKV having only 22 GVs, it looks like SSR in the more likely candidate.

Chances of AKV at 7 months are usually not good; GVs are often gone shortly after 11 month window opens. A somewhat better chance at SSR.

I agree with Palaemom. Book what you can 3 and 2 or what ever, splitting is WAY better than nothing.


You could call at 7 month and then decide which resort by available.

If you wouldn't consider splitting I would book AK as you can do 3 nights and plan on possible cash ressie just in case.

Well I called today to check availability and right now there are plenty at both resorts. If we miss out we miss out, but I decided to wait until my 7 month mark. I didn't want to take the chance of having to do a split stay. So we shall see what happens.

I would call Member Services as soon as they open on 7 month day!!

SSR seems to always have opening for studions and 1BR....

We did a GV at Jambo House in March 2010 and had no trouble booking 5 months out. Maybe we got really lucky? Not sure, but it was amazing!

The Jambo GV is amazing! We just got the OKW GV when I checked about 3 months out. You just never know.

Yes that week would be easier than October. Also did you stay at all three during your stay?
