SSR Location?

My parents are DVC members. We will be going on our second trip to SSR in a few weeks and I have a question. On our last trip SSR had just opened and we were in the Congress Park section with the closest walk to DTD and really loved it as we could make a short walk to DTD whenever we wanted. What I am wondering is how specific a DVC purchase is. In other words I am sure my parents didn't purchase a specific room but did they purchase a specific building, or a specific section such as Congress Park or did they just purchase in SSR and we could be located anywhere in the complex?

Yes you can make request but they can put you in any available room thats open.

When you buy your points they are for your home resort at the 11 month booking window and all other DVC resorts at the 7 month booking window.

If you like Congress park make that the first request,then what floor or view you would like, Smoking /non-smoking.Make your request as to what the most important to you on your trip.
But remember They are only request we didn't get any for our June trip( well Non-smoking but that was our 3rd request on the list) but still had a great room in the Paddocks viewing the Lake.

DVC membership is not tied to any particular villa ... members who select a stay at SSR end up staying anywhere at SSR where there is a villa the size matching their reservation is available when they check in (Congress Park, The Springs or The Paddock - two new areas will open soon). A purchase into SSR simply means that your parents can use their points to book a stay at SSR 11 months prior to arrival date (they can book any size villa, so long as they have sufficient points). Your parents could also book a stay at any of the other DVC resorts, but could only do this 7 months in advance of arrival date. The difference between booking 11 months in advance at the 'home' resort vs 7 months in advance at other resorts is known as the 'home resort advantage'. Some members purchase ownership at different resorts to get this advantage wherever they wish to stay. With DVC membership you can also book stays at other non-DVC resorts using points, but that is a whole different story for another time. You might want to have a look at the Member Handbook and Vacation Planners that your parents would have received as part of their membership package for more info.

Thanks for the info. So what is the current thread about SSR and "What Section are You In" all about? People are posting buildings and locations.

Technically, our membership is tied to a specific unit or group of units in a particular building at a particular resort. However, our membership does not require us to stay in that unit.

Sorry if I was too "particular."
