We're headed to SSR in two weeks, and I need to know which area of SSR is best to request for the best access to transportation the on site restaurants. Thanks.

We have been dvc members since 98 we have home resort of boardwalk and bought more points later at ssr. We usually stay at okw but when we stay at ssr we have stayed in the buildings nearer to the downtown disney end. Usually a water side building. There is a bus stop and pool nearby. You can walk around to downtown disney and walk to main pool and buildings. We will be there in 3 weeks but staying at okw.

I would recommend the Springs. It is close to the main pool, the Artist Pallet-aka restaruant, and the Springs bus location is the first stop on the bus routes.

Unfortunately, the Springs is close to the main pool and building, but the previous poster is mistaken. The bus stop at the Springs is the last stop before heading out to the parks. This can cause a problem if it is busy. You could possibly be standing. If that doesn't bother you, then you could request the Springs.

We have found that the grandstand area is very nice. I usually request the 88-- numbered building (near the pool). The first bus stop is grandstand area. I have also walked over to the springs stop when I have seen that a bus is just leaving the GS area - It is also close to the gift shop and counter service restaurant ( a short walk although it is uphill) and to the main pool.

ITA! The Grandstand has it's own very nice pool area, but it's still a short walk to the main pool & restaurants. We also request the same building by the pool! :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone. Looks like we'll need to decide b/w proximity to the main building and the way better bus stop. Looks like the Grandstand is about as far from the main area as we were @ POR in the Magnolia section back in 12/07, which wasn't bad @ all. I just need to make sure it's not too far for ~70 yo grandma to get around.

Springs and Granstand area and be sure to avoid the "Carousel" area, it's in no man's land, near the front entrance!

We just enjoyed our 1st "trip home" in 12/09 and stayed at SSR. This was also our first time there. We stayed in Grandstand and loved it. It's a 5 minute walk to the restaurant in the main bldg. The bus stop is the 1st, so we never had to stand. There is a lovely pool within it if you do not wish to go to the main pool.

stayed in Grandstand in August and loved it. It is the first bus stop so you always get a seat. The pool has a nice water sprinkler feature and bar. Also, it is a short walk to the main pool and restaurants.

If you're looking to eat within the Hospitality house areas, The Grandstand and The Springs are your best bet...about a 5 miute walk. Also, if you choose to go to DTD, you can catch the boat from these areas as well....just a 5 minute walk to the boat from these locations. If you choose to walk to DTD, Congress Park is the closest in walking distance....again, 5-10 minute walk, depending on where you are located at Congress Park.
As far as bus routes, they go in order of:
Grandstand
Carousel
Paddock
Congress Park
Springs
At the springs, you catch a bus to Treehouse areas.
Hope this helps :thumbsup2

I am glad I found this thread. My family & I will be staying at SSR for two nights prior to our DVC cruise. We will not be going to the parks just DTD and hopefully the pool. So, I was wondering which location would be best for access to both those areas. Thank you to the OP for asking and thanks for the great responses. I will request the Springs or Grandstand. I saw some posters mentioned a specific building #88 is that in the Springs section?

we must be freaks because we always ask for and get Congress Park . Looks like no one wants that and that is why we always get it LOL

The reasons we love it

#1 We can walk to DTD and we like to eat and shop down there
# 2 We think the walk to the main building is very short maybe takes us 5 -10 min depending on what we are looking at and talking about : )
#3 the bus stop is right there and it is easy to hop a bus anywhere
#4 quiet pool is right there
#5 if we stay in a studio the free washer and dryer are right there

THE main reason is that is the building we stayed in the 1st time we stayed there ( free upgrade form POR THANKS DISNEY! ) and after the 1st night my DH bought me DVC

I went through all of this for our trip last Sept. I figured the top 2 areas I wanted to stay and then after all that - couldn't get either of them. Just don't want you get set on staying somewhere and then not be able to get it like me. I was very disappointed at first but then I realized I was at Disney and it really didn't make that much difference.

Indeed. Just trying to determine what to request for the best access to transportation, etc. based on other's experience. As long as I have a roof over my head and a bed to sleep in, I'm a happy camper. :)

DVC member since 2000, stayed at all DVC resort except THV & BLT, and I'd never ever made room requests, always happy with what I was given. However, I do love the outside and since we've been to Disney many, many times, the resort, the views and the ammenities have become more important to us than the parks at this point. Last week we ended up in the Carousel Bldg., facing the road and parking area. If staying at SSR again I would request to be anywhere but there if at all possible. If my friends hadn't already checked in and been in the room I would have requested something different at the desk.
