What has been your experience with checking in after midnight at SSR?

Here's the situation....
If we fly in on Thursday night we can save over $200 on airfare compared to flying in on Friday. I dont want to pay cash for a room somewhere since that defeats the savings, and I do have enough points to add the extra night. Assuming, of course, I can add the night.
My concern is we will get stuck in a room we don't want. I really want Springs or Grandstand.

Has anyone checked in that late and got a room in either of those sections?

On my first SSR stay, I got a Springs studio (same building as the models) when checking in at midnight. I do not recall if we put in for any preference, though.

...although first I was given a non-existant Congress park #, then an occupied (do not disturb sign on the door) Springs studio, then finally the real Springs studio.
Which overall makes me think they mght reserve or keep open a Springs room for last minute issues, but that is not really how DVC operates (100% member occupancy, with a few DVC owned rooms available in case maintaince issues, and if maint is not needed, then they'll allow a cash reservation)

There is just no way of knowing where they will put you.

Worst-case, if you don't like the location you could just resign yourselves to paying for a room change the next day. I believe you just have to pay the room cleaning fee which is $40 for a Studio.
