We just bought more AKV points and now have 150 developer points that have to be used in a year at SSR. We already have our next trip planned and it doesn't include SSR. We may be able to burn a few points. But I thought that maybe they could be rented. I have never done this before. I looked all over the Rent and Trade board to see if I could get an idea of how much developer points are going for. But I didn't see any. I did see some SSR points listed. But none of them were listed as devloper points that had to be used at SSR. Anyone have an idea of the going rate for these? I never thought I would ever rent out my points. But I'm really at a lost on how we will use all these.

I am trying to rent out my developer points at $10pp. I had one reservation ready to book and then they backed out as I was on the phone with MS...UGH. Somone else came through with OKW. Oh well.

Anyone else? We were thinking more in the $8 range, since the renter must use them at SSR. Also, can you transfer developer points?

I would love to know if you can transfer the developer points! Thanks in advance to anyone who knows the answer to this

Hmm, maybe most people have been able to use theirs.

Hmm, maybe most people have been able to use theirs.

I still half-think that the developer points are already transferred, banked points (from before SSR was "sold out") so I think that is why no additional transfers could be performed with those SSR developer points.

But that is just my guess, not a written fact...

Also, can you transfer developer points?

No. You do not own them, the developer (DVD) owns them. The developer has granted you detailed limited use of them for one year from your contract date, but they are not yours. The points will not show up in your account, reservations you make using them will not show up on your account (on the website), and you have no ability to do anything with them other than book with them as listed in your contract documents. You cannot bank them, borrow them, transfer them, book more than 7 months out with them, use them to fulfill a waitlist (even at SSR!), and they may only be booked as listed in your contract, i.e. at SSR, Disneyland resorts, Disney Cruise, or Interval International. While they may be rented, because of all the restrictions this may be more difficult and you may not be able to command as high a price.

Thanks for the information. We don't have the actual add on contract yet. We just called Friday to add on. We already have a week at BCV and a cruise booked for May 2009. So I was just wondering what to do with these developer points. We really have no plans to stay at SSR in the next year. Well, I'm sure we'll think of something.

I was told they can't be used for a cruise. Is that not true?

In my opinion, transferring is so much easier than renting, but Developer Points cannot be transferred...Given the option, I would much rather transfer than rent out points..Once the transfer is made to another member, done deal...the member to whom the transfer is made, then has control over their own reservation...

My biggest worry/fear over renting points is cancellation.... I would worry that the rentee would want to cancel within the 30 day period, and then you DVC owner is stuck in a holding situation.

Best of luck! Hope you can comfortably and successfully rent!:goodvibes

I would again refer you to read your contract documents. The use restrictions are subject to your specific contract details; what may have been possible before may not be now. However, I stand by the details I listed (like the lack of transferability) since those are based upon the actual nature of developer points. Where they can or cannot be used is subject to change. At one time, developer points could be used at any DVC resort; clearly they are now restricted to SSR. They were able to be used for a cruise in the past, but that may have changed. And while your guide should know, the actual terms are in your contract and that is the final word.

Ours cannot be used for a cruise. Our guide did state emphatically that the points must be used at SSR, DL, or II. Plus we cannot bank the points into II for a later exchange. So that limits them quite a bit. Hmm, I'll need to give this some thought. Maybe I have a family member that could use them. It doesn't sound as if I could get much by renting them. Maybe it isn't worth the hassle. Thanks again!

I am just beginning to plan little short trips here and there. Taking mom for Princess 5k in March, using some points up to celebrate my bro's HS graduation, etc etc. It is easy because we are local. I don't know how people who live further away would use them up other than maybe getting the bigger rooms or not worrying about those hefty point valued weekends. I had a renter for 135 of my points and as I was on the phone with MS booking for them, they changed their minds!!! I was a little aggravated to say the least. Renting seems like such a hassle but I am happy to ditch some of the points for some spending cash...lol

For developer points, as long as a search is initiated during the first 12 months of the first year of contract, you get 1 more yr to use the points..

In essense, trip must be completed only through Interval within 2 yrs from date of contract...

Do I have this correct????Anyone else?

Thanks!!!!!!!!

I tried to argue that one with my guide and she was adamant that the travel had to happen within one year, even through II. Has anyone that has purchased since October 1st (new incentives started then) heard anything different?

Ours says..The search for accomodations for a 7 night stay at a resort available through II may be initiated within 12 months of the contract date and stays must be completed within 24 months of the contract date or the Developer Points are forfeited.

Important..I just learned this by reading this..Reservations and stays for Short Stays(6 days or less) must be completed within 12 months from the contract date or the Developer points are forfeited...

Lots of intricate rules to learn..Don't want to forfeit expensive developer points....

Hope this helps!:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Off topic...
What were the new incentives that started on October 1st? Just curious

Off topic, but since I started this thread I am forgiving myself...lol

Pretty close to what they were in September. Except now there is no longer any $500 gift card incentive. That ended September 30th. I always seem to miss on the specials by just a few days. But our guide also said that the developer points are more restrictive than they were previously and then mentioned SSR, DL, and II only. Now I am not quite sure what you could do with the points before. But it seems they are more restricted now. :confused3 Oh well, I had DH mention to a friend at work about the points and they may be interested. They are owners at SSR, so this may help them with a longer stay.

There sure is a lot of intricate rules to learn. :rotfl:

Mind if I intrude on this thread to ask what are developer points, I already gather they've got lots of 'intricacies,' but what are they?

Yeah, I'm thinkin' about buyin' into a DVC. :lmao:
