Going to SSR in two days for first trip home and trying to think of everything at the last minute. :scared1: We have a early morning flight and getting into MCO around 10:30 am, with ME should be at SSR by 11:30am Now DS(1) will have been up since 5:00 am and on two planes. If we cannot get into our room is there a good area where we might be able to get him to go to sleep. Since the resort is so spread out might even push him around in stroller until he goes to sleep. Any other thoughts?

TIA

All of the parks have baby care centers with rocking chairs, changing tables, and some supplies, if needed. They are a great help when you're in the park..., but I'm drawing a blank at an area at SSR that may have a rocking chair. The lobby of SSR does have areas (between check-in and dining) with couches.
Or, drop him off in the DVC sales child-care center :rotfl:

I think there were a few rocking chairs outside AP. There is the area between the lobby and the gift shop/AP that is fairly quiet and has some sofas and chairs where you can be out of the heat if need be.

If you like to walk, pushing him around in the stroller would defintely work. You could even walk over to Downtown Disney and do some looking around. Good luck - I remember traveling with DD when she was that age and the only place she would nap was in her stroller. Although sometimes she would sleep on the plane. I always took her car seat and since it was familiar she would nap.

There is an area with couches between the check in and AP. It is fairly quiet but there is a definite stream of people going by between check in and the restaurant/store.

The area between the lobby and the gift shop is a great idea. It is a fairly quiet place, plenty of places to snuggle down on the couches. If the community hall is quiet (big IF) you could possibly try there. I would just tell them at the front desk that you have a sleepy baby and if they could find a room that's ready you'd really appreciate it (if you're not picky about areas).

On our last 3 trips (at 10 months, 1 yr. exactly, and at 17 months) DD has fallen asleep on the plane ride (in her car seat, I always buy her a seat) after being up early to get our flights. By the time we get to the resort, she is not tired enough to fall asleep for a nap. (just to prepare you in case it happens to you ;) )
There is a fountain in the courtyard between the pool/preview center/spa/laundry rooms (does it have a name?) that mesmerizes our daughter and relaxes her-there's also a path around the area to push the stroller around. We've discovered that it works best to not fight her if she won't sleep--eventually she gets tired enough to konk out. The trick is keeping her happy until it happens:laughing:

Thanks for all the advice. We have the springs area requested but will have to see how things go and weigh our options when we get in. I have thought about taking what is available vs our requested area.

With the size of SSR you may have a good shot at getting your room at check-in. I called the night before and was told I had a room assigned and there were guests in the room. However, when I checked-in at 7 am (we were at VWL previously) I was given a room immediately.

Otherwise the lobby is very quiet compared to other hotels/resorts.
