I'm set for SSR in January. Going with DH, DS(5), DS(1), and MIL & FIL.

I'm wondering if I should request Springs (close to pool) or CP (great view).

We will use the pool probably 1 day (if weather permits) and will want to visit Artist's Palette and/or Turf Club sometimes.

I've heard conflicting stories about the "walk" to Springs from other areas. Some have said it can be a 15 - 20 minute walk. Others have said it's about 4 - 6 minutes. That's a big difference when dealing with toddlers. I would LOVE to have that view...but do I want it at the expense of a 20 minute walk to the pool. If, in fact, it really is 20 minutes.

My guess is we'll go to DTD as often as the pool and community hall. I would be able to better make a decision if the range of walking times weren't so great from other posters. Can anyone give me a straight answer that isn't biased based upon your thoughts on SSR (good or bad.)?

Any thoughts?

Okay, I love SSR, so I may be biased. :teeth:

BUT.....just going with actual experence:

We went in May of 06 with my 69-year-old mother, 3 yr old DD, and 1 yr old DS. We used strollers to get around SSR most of the time (for the kids, not mom!). Even for the pool, it was nice to have the basket for all our junk.

My mom and my 3 yr old DD (who is little for 3, she is JUST 34-1/2 inches tall now) had no problem making the trek from CP to the pool/Carriage House and back. We never tried letting the little guy walk, but he probably would have been fine. We went to BWV in September and he walked from the Beach Club back to the Village Green at the BW with no issues. I, on the other hand, was in need of a nap! :rotfl:

There is also an internal shuttle......and my sister caught an MK bus and just got off at the springs one night when she didn't feel like walking. So if you would prefer CP, I wouldn't let the walk deter you.

I asked Mom where in SSR she wanted to stay in Feb and she said "Ask for Congress Park!" So she really had no problem with the hike.

If you are only planning on visiting the pool for one day, but think you will hang out at DTD alot, I would request that you are close to the DTD entrance. I have only stayed at SSR once and I can't recall the name of our location. But, it was quite a hike both to DTD and the pool with our 4 & 5 year olds. We had a view of DTD and could step out on the walkway, but it still took awhile to get there.

hi, we are just back last nite from 10 days at SSR, its about 8 minutes to the lobby area from congress park, about 10 to downtown, the view is a dice roll, not all are "good" views of DTD. oops i thought i was quoting OP

DW, DD, and I were at SSR two weeks ago and went to the pool multiple times (Love the pool). We stayed in Congress Park, about as far away from the pool as you can stay in Congress Park.

I was worried when they told us where we were at check-in, because DD is 1 and we didn't want to drive to the pool every time.

Long story short, we loved our location. It was probably about a 10 minute walk to the pool, but it was such a nice walk. Beautiful landscaping and fountains. Hey, we were on vacation, so it was all part of the experience. Basically, we loved the view (which is not a guarantee in Congress Park), and were comfortable with the walk.

Next time we head home, we will definitely request Congress Park!!!

I would choose Congress Park and here's why:

You will be going to the pool during the day when the kids have energy and are in good sprits.

Most likely Downtown Disney visits will be in the evenings when the kids are tired and cranky. I would want the shorter walk from Downtown Disney under those circumstances.

I beleive it was Caskbill that posted the distance from CP to the pool and you would be surprised at how short the walk is. My wife says that I am a fast walker I often leave her behind and have to stop and wait for her. With that being said it took me about 6 min from CP to the pool, and when my wife went it took her about 8-9 min so you can see time is all about how long your legs are. :rotfl2:

Just returned from SSR on Tuesday with DS, DD 5 and DS 2. We stayed in the Paddock, building room numbers 6501-6836 and this building is on the very end, it's the closest to CP and pretty close to DDD and a short walk to pool, if you can't get CP or The Springs.
