Has anyone had success in putting more than the limit of 8 people in a SSR 2 bedroom Villa? My sister and I are planning to go with our families next summer. She will be a party of 2 adults and 4 kids and my husband and I will have a 6 year old and 3 year old and the four of us would stay in the King Master. We can do 5 and 5 in adjoining rooms at POR but for just about the same money we could do the 2 br villa at SSR with a lot more room and a much better layout. A friend said that they used to just take the extra kids and buy their tickets separately and no one cared but now with the Extra Magic Hours that probably wouldn't work if we wanted to take advantage of those hours and we are considering the Dining Plan and that wouldn't work also. Anyone gotten them to budge on the extra kids?

Well, its against the rules to have more than 8. I would get a Grand Villa that would sleep up to 12. Or stick with POR.
Looks like you have plenty of time to figure this out though;)
BTW, Welcome to the DIS!

Yes, you will definitely have problems with extra magic hours. We went in both March and May, and were asked to see EVERYONE'S room keys for every extra magic hour (even our dd 6). I was shocked because it was a big change from Feb, where we often had to pull out only one key per extra magic hour night. A CM told me it was indeed to crack down on 1) guests who register too many people in a room, and 2) guests with friends who live locally and are just "visiting" during extra magic hours.

Thank you Diana. I used this board so much when we went October 2007 that I was kind of shocked to realize tonight that I must have never actually posted and just lurked.
I would love to get a Grand Villa but twice the nightly rate is way out of our price range. Maybe it is because they don't want to crowd the Villas and keep it more peaceful which I totally understand. It just seems that it is crazy that we could put 10 of us in connecting POR rooms but not a 2bedroom villa. Three of us stayed in POR last year and it was fine but it would get crowded quick. My husband and I were planning to stay in a SSR 1 bedroom villa next year but then my sister wanted to make it a group and the price is too much to get two separate 1bdr villas.
I do feel a little psychotic to be worrying about next summer's vacation when we just came back from a cruise but with it being a grand gathering it makes me a little nervous and I want to have all my ducks in a row. Thanks again for your well wishes.

Some DVC owners rent out their points, that may be a great option for your family! Try the DVC Board....It may prove more economical and get the layout and space you would prefer!
SSR is a great resort...we just stayed in a 2 bdr at OKW, it was HUGE!!
Good luck...and if you stay on these boards, dont be surprised if you change your resort a couple of times before your trip too!

I'm always surprised by how many people come to these boards and post this type of question. I don't think anybody here is going to tell you it's OK ... even if someone here had snuck extra people into a room they wouldn't admit it. Personally, I think it's a bad idea. I would be terrified the whole time that we'd be discovered and either forced to pay for an additional villa or forced to leave the hotel. And you are right about the extra magic hours and dining plan, it wouldn't work. So I think you've just answered your own question.

What about 2 rooms at the YC/BC or BWI? If you watch for discounts they can be fairly reasonable and would give you more space than 2 rooms at a moderate resort. Or check rates and the Swan or Dolphin. I know right now they are running specials for like $159 a night.

Good luck!

Thanks for the heads up on the DVC and the idea on the YC/BC- I didn't realize that discount codes came up.
I guess I should clarify, my intention is to not do anything "illegal". I am way too much of a Nervous Nelly for that. A friend of mine did this when her children were younger (before EMH) with approval from the reserving CM and the CM at the front desk. They were 3 and 4 at the time and she was allowed to add them to a one bedroom that took their total to 6 and the front desk sold her separate tickets for them. The CM that reserved it told her that it really didn't matter to WDW because they didn't charge extra for kids anyway and two rooms with a connecting door rented for the same price as the 1 bedroom did at the time. She was the one who mentioned that I might get on here and check to see if anyone else had a more recent experience of Disney letting this happen. Doesn't look too promising.
My sister's husband won't agree to going until we have a "plan" and I want to be ready when they release the rates in August so I know where to book. Thank you again ladies for the alternative suggestions.

DVC resorts are very strict on room occupancy which is based on fire regulations (not so much the amount of room in a villa, but the way to get out in an emergency - stair widths, doorways, etc). A two bedroom villa at SSR is limited to eight persons plus one under the age of three. With ten, you are two over the limit. You might get an additional studio for your family and your sister stick with the two bedroom villa. Your sister will not fit in a one bedroom villa since she has six in her family.

But you will be extremely crowded with the ten of you all at one time for a meal. The table only seats four, plus two more at the counter.
