SSPL update

It seems like no one is real interested in this topic- but I'll give it one more shot. When we did the DVC tour in early Jan, we looked at VB since BW was not available, and we love the beach. We also love to be at WDW for New Years. Our guide said that was not a problem because of SSPL, we would have an equal chance with everyone to get in at the holidays. Fortunately, we found this board and realized VB was not the right choice for us, got BW on resale. BUT if we had bought VB, I would be really upset right now, as SSPL was a marketing tool for them. So now that SSPL has been cancelled, I wonder how those of you who used it feel. I don't think anyone is getting in at the 7 month window at BW over the holidays- I couldn't get in at 10 1/2 mos. Can you get in at OKW or VWL? Maybe VB and HH owners don't care to go over the holidays. And maybe we are all happy at our home resorts! Just wondering how you all feel about it?
(Well this might solve some of the prime time renting concerns)

Sorry to hear that it got canceled. I haven't tryed to use it yet but was planning on using for Christmas '03. I hope they are right stating that getting the holidays isn't to difficult at the 11-month window. I can't image that the 7-month window would work to well for those members wanting to make ressies. Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

HOw did you learn of SSPL being canceled? If it was in the vacation magic magazine, we haven't received ours yet. We used the SSPL for the holiday period of 1999/2000. It was nice to make our ressies so far ahead and know what we had.

I have not heard that SSPL was cancelled. They are not having it for December 2001 at VWL because the SSPL list was being run before anyone had bought into VWL. Maybe that's where the confusion is coming from. (Diane I looked at VM on-line and it doesn't mention any cancellation of the list.)

I did not like the SSPL because it effectively negated my home resort advantage for that period of time. (I know that no home resort priority for SSPL was specified in my member guidelines. It was just one of the few, minor things that I did not like). I can understand that for periods of great demand, some type of administrative solution was needed - other than crashing a phone system, LOL. However, I think the SSPL should have applied only to your home resort -or at least should have given priority to those who owned at the resort over those who did not. Since several have reported success at getting reservations for the 2000 & 2001 Christmas / New Year's periods during the 7 - 11 month window, SSPL may not even be needed anymore. If that is true, maybe MS can save some money (dues) by not having to bother with it. I will not be sorry to see SSPL discontinued. JMHO

Diane and Pam, I called 2 days ago to get on it and was told it was discontinued. Then I called for another ressie yesterday and confirmed again that it was cancelled due to underuse. It really won't affect me as I own at BW, but I just thought it might be of interest to the board. Thank goodness I bought where I plan to stay!
