This is definitely a question/topic better suited for Technical Support or the Webmasters on DISboards but, believe me, the mods on this forum have the same problems! I wish I could say that I had a nifty way to bypass the slow loading of the pages or threads but I don't. I suffer right along with you all! I feel your pain!

Sometimes I just want to pop on for a minute, answer a question quickly and sign out. That's all I may have time for at that moment....but it's not that easy because I have to wait for everything to load. So either I give up or I hunker down and wait. I have used 3 different browsers, and while one browser may be slightly faster than another, it's obvious that there is still a problem on the DIS.

All I know is that there was supposed to be a switching of servers taking place at some point. I thought it had already happened, but maybe it's not complete. In any case, I would guess that the problems we are having are either one of the reasons for the switch to different servers, OR the problems are a result of the switch and the bugs are being worked out.

BTW, I read DISboards at work during lunch hour. We've got a gigabit connection directly to the backbone via CENIC. I think I can safely say that our internet connection isn't a bottleneck. And yes, I've seen times when it's taken me 5 minutes to load a page from DIS.

As a techie answer, I think the DIS servers are badly thrashing at times. Thrashing is kinda like rush hour on a freeway -- get past a certain level of demand, and things get a lot slower in a hurry. My guess, and it's only a guess, is that the bottleneck is not the internet pipe into and out of the server farm; but rather, the disk array serving up pages. If you look closely and know what to look for, I think I can tell when a page is already in the page cache due to having been served up to someone else (comes up quickly), and when it has to wait its turn to get fetched off disk. Of course, I may just be seeing Magician Mickey in the clouds, too

It's really slow lately I was wondering if it has anything to do with the amount of people that are on.... Right now it seems to be fine. I have the most problem in the mornings...
