SSDI after unemployment

I was recently terminated from my job. I suspect that my epilepsy played a part in getting fired but proving it might be difficult. I am eligible to file for unemployment. I could instead file for SSDI but know that this is a lengthy process even tho I have documentation of brain injury. I am considering going the unemployment route for awhile while I change anticonvulsants once again(and who know how many times more). There are no jobs in my field around here right now anyway. I had been working 40 hours a week but the last 2 years I have gone downhill and just dont feel like I can anymore(the meds side effects). Anyway, eventuallly I know I am going to have to file for SSDI. I just worry how SSDI is gonna look at the fact that I would probably just be coming off unemployment. Going directly for SSDI right now is not an option as my family needs the unemployment dollars.

file for your unemployment that is what is is there for. SSDI can take a lot of time so you are actually in a good spot.

I know I cant file for both at the same time cause it cant look like you CAN work but that you CANT. I just need some money coming in now while I sort thru what antiseizure med I can tolerate.

I think you can file, based on expected level of disability, but you can not collect both at the same time.

My BIL received umemployment the whole time he was waiting for his SSDI to get approved. He got fired from his job for abuse of family medical leave act and signed up for unemployment and SSDI. He got UE check for almost 2 years befire SSDI

To collect unemployment you need to be actively looking for work. It doesn't have to be the same field or the same hours as your last job but you do need to be looking.

Claim the unemployment. Immediately file for SSDI. You are not allowed to claim both at the same time (as someone else pointed out), but you can collect unemployment while you wait for your SSDI claim to be determined. Just friendly advice - be prepared to wait...and wait...and wait. Don't be disappointed if you're denied the first time (or two).

My hubby suffers from severe agoraphobia...we even have a letter to SSA that he is "unable to maintain employment and is incapable of working", yet we've been denied twice. Now we're waiting for the hearing. Just be patient and don't forget to ask for help if you need it.

OP: sorry to hear about the firing and that you feel it was based on your medical situation.
UE is there for those that need it....to help you ....But it is "required" that you are "looking" for work. Thats a decision only you can make, financially and morally.

That being said, SSDI is difficult (perhaps to cut down on abuse?? Or just slow processors to make it difficult so people Don't file?? ) but not impossible to get. The process can be helped along (IMHO) with a Qualified attorney that specializes in it. Do you know anyone that you can ask? Anyone that has gotten SSDI? Is here someone in your area that you can get a free consultation??
A very close relative I know, hired an attorney....it took almost a year, but they were approved first time around. It was well worth it. Professionals know "what to do, have ready/require" and are prepared to fight for you. Of course it is Vital that you get someone experienced to help you get thru the process.

well, I dont do Mission Space..barely do BTMR and Space Mountain..
Not at WDW so much, but I try not to ride things that are rough....
