Is there such a thing?

The last few weeks we have been feeding the birds in a typical feeder and low and behold or "friends" the squirrels were trying to get into the house through the vent and gutters.

I hate to stop feeding the birds but the squirrels have caused our home so much damage in the past:confused3

Have you looked at a squirrel spinner?

The other option is finding away from them not being able to get to the feeder to begin with. Do you have Wildbirds Unlimited near you? They offer many ways to keep squirrels from the food.

Impossible...Amazing what those little guys can do.

I had one that claimed it was. But then those darn squirrels are insistent.:lmao: I'm not sure they got much food. But they sure tried real hard.

There are multiple options, and part of it will depend on the terrain around your house. My parents have a large, open backyard. There is a good expanse that is not close enough to the trees or the house that the squirrels can jump onto the feeder. My mom has multiple feeders on poles with baffles to keep the squirrels from climbing up. We have never had a squirrel at these feeders.

They do make several types of squirrel proof feeders if this method will not work for you. Most are weight sensitive. One design is fairly simple: There's essentially a little door and when something above a specific weight settles on it, the mechanism shuts the feeder. The second kind is the spinner, which goes by the brand name Yankee Flipper. It's a motorized one that spins around when something of the specified weight lands on it, effectively flinging the squirrel into space. The downside to this one is that it can sometimes fling feed out with it. Squirrels have bene known to outsmart the squirrel proof feeders over time, but you will have at least some success with them.

I want to get a Yankee Flipper for my yard, but more for entertainment value than anything else.

I've been seeing ads from a local shop that sells squirrel resistant bird seed. It's coated with haberno pepper, which the squirrels supposedly hate, but it doesn't bother the birds. Granted, the squirrels will probably develop a taste for spicy hot stuff!!:lmao:

We covered all the pumpkins and gourds this year with hot sauce and they found the spicy stuff very tasty:lmao:

Thanks for all the suggestions.....off to look at some of our options:thumbsup2
