My extended family is planning a trip for December 2020. There will be 7 adults and 2 kids; my husband and I, our 2 kids who will be 6 and 4, my parents, my 2 sisters and one brother-in-law who is in a wheelchair.

We were planning to rent points. Everybody getting their open studio, isn't really possible due to budget. But I was wondering if all of us squeezing into a 2 bedroom would be realistic. Many of the 2 bedroom sleep 9, but some members of my family feel like it would be too much, too squished.

You would fit in a two bedroom at Old Key West. Two people would sleep in the master bedroom, four in the two queen beds in the 2nd bedroom, and three in the living room. It has a sofa sleeper that will fit two short people and a sleeper chair that isn’t too bad. My sister liked it. :)

I personally would not squish that many in a 2 bedroom, especially with young kids who probably sleep more than the adults. Who would get the living room? If it’s the kids, is everyone going to go to bed when they have to? We did 4 adults and 2 kids at OKW, plus a scooter, and I would have maybe added 1-2 more adults but that’s it.

I’d look into multiple rooms at a resort, 3-4 rooms at Pop would probably be cheaper than a 2 bedroom.

Treehouse villa maybe? Don't they sleep 9?
Yes. But the bunk beds are child-size and will not sleep an adult comfortably. That means that 3 adults would end up sharing the living room and will have to sleep on a sleeper chair and sofa bed. There are only 2 H.A. treehouses. All of them are elevated a considerable distance above the ground.

IMO, it would be very tight. OKW would give you the bed arrangement of sleeping surfaces but only a few are wheelchair accessible. AKV-Kidani is a smaller 2BR villa but you could get a dedicated 2BR there and in addition to 2 real beds in the 2nd bedroom, you would also get 3 full bathrooms.

3 studios or a 2br and a studio

people need their space. that is way too many people. Just because a room category sleeps 9 does not mean that 9 "fit" into that category.

Personally, i don't think more than 2 adults should be in a studio or 1 bedroom unless they are on a friends trip. But, definitely not 2 separate couples or families. we had 9 in December and i rented a 2 bedroom and studio. i don't like the living room used as a bedroom-like i said totally my opinion.

whatever you do, HAVE FUN !

I'd seriously consider three studios at OKW. Each one has two queen beds. But most of the buildings do not have elevators. But you won't get three studios next to each other (you might get two right next to each other in a few select three story buildings)

I would suggest Kidani as well BUT you have to book a dedicated 2 BR it is a booking category so you will need pay and book very early. As far as sleeping the kids can sleep in the master for Naps or second bedroom I highly doubt at that age adults will sleep later than them but they will go to bed earlier... you may even consider a blow up bed for the master -- or let the kids have the master and you can sleep in the master Bath -- trust me you will want to... However in the end 3 studios will not be to much more than a 2 BR. OKW will have more space but the third bathroom is a huge help especially if people get up in the middle of the night... I will say it again AKL has become very popular so if you want a 2BR standard view dedicated -- your chances may be higher for a savannah but at the point you can get 3 studios you need to book before 7 months out-- start the process at the very least 9 mounts out.

It's criminal to give two little kids the king bed and expect an adult to sleep on a blow up bed in the bathroom. Two kids in one queen in the second bedroom along with parents in the other bed. Grandparents in master. Sisters and BIL in the living room.

Truer words were never spoken. Disney's maximum room occupancy limits are just that - limits. The most people you can mash into a room without violating the fire code. Just because they'll let you put that many people in a room doesn't mean it'll be comfortable or pleasant.

To be honest, if I were invited on a vacation that involved staying in a 2-bedroom villa with eight other people, I'd find an excuse to avoid going.

Separate rooms are the way to go on a large family trip. Everyone books what they want, gets privacy and some peace at the end of the day, and a quiet place to nap if they need it. If people want to gather together, there's plenty of areas around the resorts to do so.

Or if you really want a place where the group can be together that's not a public space and has a kitchen and washer/dryer, one family can rent a one bedroom villa to be used as a gathering place, with everyone else getting studios.

I think I’d sacrifice staying onsite and get something with more space for less as a previous poster suggested. I know some can handle being shoved together like sardines, but if I want to be on speaking terms with my traveling party at the end of the trip, I need a little “me” space. Whatever you decide, have a fantastic trip!

DH and I have stayed in a studio and a 1bdr at OKW and while the 1bdr was obviously much larger even making it a 2bdr ( I think all of the studios combine to make a two bed units) nine people would be a bad idea. Only two toilets and showers for example for 9 people. Plus the adults might want time to watch tv etc while the kids are in bed but that can’t happen if the kids are sleeping in the living room. With that many kids and adults I would agree with the PPs and consider alternative options. Also you mentioned the adult in the wheelchair and I would find that the second bedroom with the two queen beds would be tight for them so if you do go ahead the master bedroom would give them the most space.
I get that families and friends can be super close but after a day in the parks you might also just want space and privacy as well.

I think you have your answer when you say some members of your group feel like it's too squished. Not everyone wants to give up privacy and sleep in a living room on a sofa bed with other relatives in the room, and that's understandable. I think the only way the 2 bedroom would conceivably work was if everyone was absolutely on board with the sleeping arrangements, lack of privacy, and sofa beds and was willing to make that compromise. Generally children share common spaces better than adult couples who want their privacy.

Just got back from Boulder Ridge 2 BR and a separate room in Wilderness Lodge. Party consisted of daughter, her husband and 4 children ages 4-9. I could have easily stayed with them in the villa but I needed my space and they needed theirs. The living room eventually had all their toys and shoes everywhere. No way was anyone going to get to sleep in the pull out couch. I think that everyone's attitude stayed good because we had separate living spaces. Just my opinion.

We had 6 adults and 1 child at OKW and didn't feel the least bit cramped. It depends on how comfortable you are with the group going. The adult that took the living room didn't even use the pull out, but the chair instead. I wouldn't have had a problem adding at least 1 more adult and kids can sleep anywhere. I wouldn't try it in the smaller dvc's though.
