My co-worker has a mobile broadband "card" (it's actually the USB plug-in) and she has offered to sell it to me for $20. Now, since I already have a phone contract with Sprint, and will already have the hardware for mobile broadband, will I still be required to sign a 2-yr contract to activate mobile broadband service?

I cannot find anything about adding the service without purchasing the equipment. I would only like to utilize the mobile service when we travel, which is not that often, so I would rather use it on a "month-to-month" basis.

You will be required to sign a 2 year agreement when you get your mobile broadband card. I just bought an overdrive and had to do the 2 year agreement. Right now they have the mifi hotspot for free w/ service at 49.95. The overdrive is $10 more but offers 4g. This is the speed difference:

3g
dowload 1039kbps
upload 346kbps

4g
download 1543
upload 569

time Warner cable wifi
download 10778
upload 472

just something to think about.

I absolutely hate my sprint Broadband card!! I been charged overage fees a few times. I can't download anything or watch YouTube. Basically I have to look at websites - sometimes I go over just with that!!

I have a sprint broadband card. I live surrounded by farmlands and that was my only choice since I don't have a landline phone. I share it between my kids desktop computer and my laptop. It's ok, i've had it for 4 years now. I pay $60 for it, but it's unlimited. I wouldn't buy a used one though. If you go into radio shack they have them for free most of the time when you sign a new contract.

We already have a sprint unlimited data plan for both phones. Would the broadband card not be able to feed off that? If so I know what I'm getting before we go to Disney.

I love my Sprint USB card. I pay for the unlimited because I have need for it. I am an independent sales advisor for the DVC, so I need it when I go and do presentations. I also have a weekend home in the Poconos where I can't get any DSL reception, so I depend on my card when I am there. I have never had overage charges, probably because I am on an unlimited plan and rarely have reception issues.
