Springfield expansion taking shape...

They have made a lot of progress since we were there last week. As we were walking by Moe's, they were starting to tear the coverings off of the inside of the windows (Universal Advertisements). It was quite the chore - those ads seemed to be fairly well adhered to the windows.

There were no signs up last Thursday either!

Wow! I had no idea this would be open when we took our trip in July! How exciting, something more to look forward to. The concept art looks great!

Oh, and andyman, even as a lover of all things Universal, I've gotta say "that's funny right there."

andyman loves the darkside?

i know everyone is looking forward to the new simpson area set up but i'm hopeful the food won't disappoint.

i wanna eat what they show on the tv show........

i hope someone can tell us about the beer and food when they go there...

Will the new Simpsons ride be open this June also? I have not seen any construction pics of it. It's supposed to be like one fish two fish, right?

I don't think there's been an announcement on when Springfield will be open...just sometime this summer. The new ride is supposed to be a flat ride and might indeed be like One Fish Two Fish.

In the drawing it looks like it is to the far left, somewhere by MIB. The artist rendering looks like a one eyed octopus and little boats on arms, like one fish two fish.

Yup, it is a spinner called Kang & Kodos' Twirl 'n' Hurl. Kang & Kodos are aliens and those are spaceships that you ride in.

Wow that's coming along really quickly. If it was Disney they'd be saying "opening summer 2015" :rotfl2:

We were there last year and will be spending 1 night at RPR on 24th July this year as part of our 3 week holiday. We didn't even know this was happening. We only decided on Universal again as my brothers family coming for first time. Its a bigh expense nut I think it will be worth it. I wish Disney would build things as quickly as Universal. Can't believe how many new attractions they have lately.

So, I guess we won't have any luck next week with any of these Simpsons attractions. :(

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I think it`s really impressive what Universal are doing and have been doing regarding new attractions.

Can`t wait to see this.......and I`m not a Simpsons fan but this looks good ::yes::

People over on Orlando United are saying that the food establishments will be opening June 1.

YAY!! We are there through the 5th!!!!! My husband is so excited. He's a huge fan. We even have a Simpsons pinball machine in our house. :)

Yippee! We will be there on June 23rd for our first time and we will be getting there at a time when Transformers and now the Simpsons area are being added to the attractions.

I was at US and IOA this week and the new Simpsons area looks great. I can't believe how fast things get built at Universal. The new Transformers ride looks amazing and the HP expansion is moving right along too. I love Disney but, it seems like Universal doesn't mess around when it comes to getting new attractions built.

Does any one know if the Kwik-E-Mart actually a store or just a store front? Will it sell Bart's favorite frozen sugar drink (Squishee).

Also are they changing the name of The Simpsons Ride to Krustyland. The concept art gives me that impression. I think it would make a lot of since to change the name.

Thw Kwik E mart has been there since the Simpsons Ride, it is not new, and it is a souvenier shop. There is ( or was when we went in Jan 2012) a stand outsde near the Kiwk E Mart that sold Squishees

The Kwik-E Mart is an actual store...I've only been inside once but Squishees are sold in the area.

The Simpsons ride has always had "Krustyland" on the front. Here's a picture I took right after it first opened:

I've been travelling to the Orlando theme parks since 1973, when there was only 1 park. Over the years I've looked forward to every expansion, upgrade, whatever, at each and every park. Is it just me or have recent expansions (though well executed with a few great rides) been light on the rides and experiences and heavy on shopping and food venues...more places to spend money than have fun, in other words. The Simpson expansion for example, has one new ride that is not unlike generic amusement park rides seen everywhere. Unless you're really into The Simpsons, the other shops/restaurants won't be of much interest. Though I'm a huge HP fan, the same is somewhat true for the HP expansion. At least there will be the Gringott's ride and the visual effects on the Hogwarts train seem promising. I like the idea of being immersed in the world of Diagon Alley, but will it just be another opportunity to eat and shop? There's so much that could be done in this area, I hope Universal will take advantage the endless possibilties and not let HP fans (and Simpsons fans for that matter) down.
