Spring Direct Incentives 2/9-4/27

Im getting flashbacks to when I bought two uy and the board was vehemently against this. I suppose I can add more direct later, but why do I feel like this deal may be the one that got away

They have done SSR a few times recently. In this thread (apologies I can’t remember who) someone bought it on the last sale for the same price. Incentives were less but so was the starting price at $205 instead of $215. If SSR doesn’t come back something else will.

One thing I found interesting on the cruise. Guide first started trying to sell us CFW. Then, wanted to sell us RIV. After I mentioned our age and knowing we would sell it 15+ years, he tried CCV (because it had or maybe still has a promotion). Then, he went into PVB and price comparisons.

Some of his lines were more used car sales tactics, but I didn’t feel like wasting any time poking holes in his statements because we were on a cruise. Sadly, most don’t know better and will trust anything these guides say. If he were our regular guide, I would be changing guides. I don’t like guides who aren’t entirely honest.
This happened to me as well buying last cycle. Not every discount was included, and I had to go back and tell him something was not adding up.

I don't know if it was necessarily intentional because my guide also told me "there are no deals on CCV right now," which was not accurate. I think people here might know more than they do. Makes me wonder how many people buy DVC and "miss" relevant incentives.
Just noting that I don't believe the guides get advance notice of the new incentives and promotions, so a lot of times when we call them on the first day of incentives, we actually know before they do. That said, I think it is certainly common for them to not mention discounts unless asked for.
My guide apparently didn't know about the Visa discount...I had to email him the details.

So no other discounts? Castaway? Annual pass? Just checking because people on this board seem to know more than my guide...
This board DEFINITELY knows more than the guides... i'm no expert & I couldn't believe the conversation I was having with a guide at Poly. lol

Because you’re in the moment right now - I’m very confident that feeling will pass over time. Truthfully if you had the same flexibility and weren’t CA-based, I could maybe be persuaded for SSR (the earlier expiration would still be a sticking point but I could possibly get past that). You haven’t had your VDH contract for long enough to be faced with scenarios where 11-month priority has been critical…even with your flexibility I do think that will become more and more valuable over time. I would personally keep VDH direct, and sell some of my resale to buy SSR direct if having more direct pts is the prize. Resale isn’t going away - so you can always buy more down the road.

Well if you aren’t working on another card you would certainly get the $300 statement credit for meeting the spend plus it would be at 0% for 6 months. You would also receive the $300 GC that you could use to pay towards the new dues bill when it comes.
That's true but I recently did open a new card for this purchase to get a whole bunch of Chase UR points, by the time I'm done I'll have around 400k UR points lol. I still have enough left to pay to do a SUB on the Disney Visa but eh, I wonder if it would make me have to redo all of my payments

The reason is because this could be my ticket to buying 250 direct points 😭😭 I cant do that with vdh its too expensive. And I always book last minute, like I just booked aulani two weeks ahead of time im not sure i need a home resort priority, I booked a bunch of vdh reservations for every month without home resort priority. Resale ssr wont get me into the direct resorts or id just buy that again. Im not saying im gunna do it but it is mighty tempting lol
Only you know if the 50 extra points would make a big difference with how often you want to go and what room types you want to book. What you say about last minute bookings are exactly why we are fine with SSR. We've already had SSR resale for about 2 years and have never once needed the 11 month advantage. We've stayed anywhere we've wanted to stay - Poly, Beach Club, Boardwalk, etc at popular times of the year (Spring Break, October), and those are studios, not just the easy to book 1 bedrooms.
We are buying direct at this point to get access to the restricted resorts and to get access to the Sorcerer annual pass which will save out family about $2000 per year on our renewal.
I'm not well versed on VDH availability, so if you plan to use points there a lot, make sure you've done your research on the 7 month availability. I guess it also does depend on how old you are, with a 2054 vs 2070 expiration, but both of those are so far in the future, it's hard to even conceptualize 😄.

VDH will get harder to book once it sells more, sells out, and then starts getting restricted owners who can only book at VDH. What is available now may not be available in future years. Why risk it if you want to stay at VDH regularly?

What if I sell baylake and add SSR direct! Won't anyone support SSR direct????
I would actually sell your SSR resale to get more VDH direct if I was in your place 🤣
It's your earliest expiring resort/points and also the least useful home resort window you have.

That is sad.

DVC is slowly becoming more-and-more like other timeshares (less transparency, more pressure).

It is also possible that the guides did not get that info until later in the day?

I can tell you it happens and customers can find into that didn’t make it officially to those who need it.

On a related note to my previous post... if you want more SSR points, just buy them resale... They will have almost as much utility as the direct points you would buy from Disney at half the price...
Shorter expiration is not a good idea... My VGF expires in 2064 and that makes me nervous.... Wish I could have a 2072 expiration or 2074...

Your wife who is always saying let's not do Disney is suggesting buy 50 more points... I'd say be grateful for that and go for the win!

As for feeling good about gaming your SSR points, that works until it doesn't work out and you end up having to stay at SSR...

My Poly guide said “I don’t normally get clients with your knowledge and research….” 😂
I had done the tour after bingeing on DVC podcasts for a month. At that time I was trying to decide whether to buy direct or resale as a new owner. He never followed up with me. I think he knew there was no way I would buy direct for my first contract when I mentioned straddling the incentive period, and choosing a UY to get the previous years points. He said I couldn’t do that, which made me realize I needed a new guide.

A month later I bought a resale double point HHI 60 point contract for $50 a point to become a member at low cost, along with Aulani subsidized for SAP, and have access to those better member add on direct incentives (and we LOVE HHI & Aulani).

You can still do the CSR or CSP as long as you hold the card they’ll give you the discount

This is what is making me hold back on switching to SSR. Once those VDH resale owners are added to the mix, will we ever get in at 7 months for those 1 and 2 bedroom villas or studio balconies? On the other hand, I do book so many vacations under the 7 month mark that it seems more pragmatic to go with SSR. I did love staying at SSR after the refurb, but it doesn’t hold any emotional connection for us like VDH does. I am worried I would regret switching. I can also see us actually planning an 11 month trip out for VDH since we have to fly to California from the East Coast now instead of when we lived close and could take last minute trips. I am sticking with VDH and going to ignore this temptation to save with SSR.
