Spring Break vs. July

Hi all. Hate to bother everyone with a question I am sure has been asked before, but I'm really stumped on this one.

We had planned on going to WDW next June - the day after school got out. Well, I just got my paws on the school calendar for next year and the kids don't get out until Tuesday, June 22. Quite late, IMHO. For work reasons we need to travel on a weekend-to-weekend schedule, and hence can't just jet off on Wednesday the 23rd. But if we wait until the following weekend our trip backs up against the July 4th holiday . . . yadda, yadda, yadda.

Bottom line, we're actually considering going during Spring Break. (For us it would be late March/early April - the week prior to Easter.)

Can anyone out there voice their opinions on the pros and cons of these two times? (We are non-pull-the-kids-out-of-school folks. Our kids will be 7 and almost 5 next summer.)

It seems like the logical list would look like this:

Spring Break: costs more points, crowds are insane, but better weather

Late June/Early July: heat and hurricanes, but costs fewer points

Anyone care to embellish this list with things that aren't occuring to me? Until now we have traveled during February, so we haven't had to consider these things. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! :-)

I think from reports here that for this year at least, the week before Easter was much worse than the week after Easter. There were actual park closings this year. My spring break is the week before yours, and I'm going then (solo or maybe with 1 DGF) but I'm also taking the whole family back the week leading up to the 4th of July. For once in my life, I want to see the 4th of July fireworks. Our DGC will be 5, 6 and 7 when we take them next June/July, so we'll be in the same boat as you.

In your case, I would go with the hopefully better weather in March/April, even though it costs more points. You're going to get crowds either way, but maybe the better weather will make your trip more enjoyable.

It really is a toss up. Our DS/DDiL have no problems with taking the DGC out of school....our scheduled trip over the 4th of July is really because I want to be there for the 4th, and I invited them, and they said "Yes!" For them, their next week at WDW after that will be before our DCL cruise in November '10. That should be nicer weather.

Whichever way you go, I hope you have a great time.

We do not do the Spring Break thing, But always do the 4th of July week. Its warm...OK its HOT! But we plan, loads of breaks and hydrate well go back to resort during peak time of day and relax in pool or just take a nap in the room. We spend cool down time in the shops for the kids freeze water bottles and carry them in our fannie packs, yes i'm 39 and I wear a fannie pack in Disney World! Serves 2 purpose's keeps me hydrated and cool. we use the EMH to the max specially the late ones, little harder for you with the younger ones. Crowds are heavy on the 4th but the other days are managable again planning STAY AWAY FROM MK on the 4th:scared1:, nice EPCOT day or the pool. Shawnpirate:

I know you said you're non "pull the kids out of school" type people, but in a case like this, (where you're considering Spring Break over a week in June) I would pull them out & have them miss the last two days...esp. with the ages of your kids. And this is coming from a 1st grade teacher. :teacher:

There is nothing of importance that your kids will miss on those last two days. Trust me, report cards will have been finalized long before that. (Our last day of school is June 10th, yet our completed report cards were due to our principal today).

*Even attendance is calculated "ahead of time" for the last week of school. Everyone is marked "present", even though we have no way of knowing if they'll be here or not. Just today, I distributed the "Perfect Attendance" & "Excellent Attendance" awards, & those kids may not even be here that week. They may be off to WDW.:rotfl:

I say "Go and have fun!!!"

I'll agree with Daisy here, I have a 1st grader, who's last day is Thursday. They have done nothing really this week. Today is the long winded awards ceremony, which is mostly for the 5th graders. Yesterday all 4 1st grade classes had a party that lasted from 12:15-2:15.

Today is my 6th(Jr. High) son's last day. He could have missed it, they cleaned out lockers yesterday, so no book bags today. Not sure what he's doing today with just a pencil in his pocket.
