We are going to visit Universal for first time during spring break, April 2and 3rd :scared1:
We are not staying on site and due to budget won't be purchasing Express pass, hope that getting to parks at opening time will allow us to avoid long lines. We are planning to spend two days at both parks, should we get 2-day park to park or just plan on visiting one park per day?

for the extra money to make them hoppers, i think it is worth it.

if lines are too long, or if the park you are in is too crowded for your liking, you can then hop to the other park and later return back to the first one.

buy the 2 day base tickets anytime.

wait until you are in the parks to determine if you want to hop.
if you do, go to guest services and upgrade your tickets to hoppers.
once you do that, all the days will be hoppers.

maybe you will be able to stay in one park all day.
maybe the crowds won't bother you that much.

use the single rider lines when you can to avoid long waits in lines for the rides.

Those are the same days we will be there and we're offsite as well. We are purchasing 2 day park-to-park because we're getting them from UT and upgrading at the park would probably be the full cost rather than at the discounted cost. From the tips I've gotten here and my experience at Disney during Easter week last year, things start pretty good in the morning and by 1pm, crowds become heavy. I've also read that first thing and last thing are the best for Harry Potter so we plan to do Universal on Monday and then switch to IoA after dinner hour and then start Tuesday morning at IoA and Harry Potter. The park hours are really long those days at least. We're planning to be at the gate 45 minutes before opening.

If you have the ability you can watch the wait times for both Univ and IoA rides at Undercover Tourist on Facebook or with an iphone. Yesterday, Harry Potter had 120 minute waits almost all day!! Yikes!
