We are in Southern Indiana and are looking for a warm vacation spot for spring break. We are pretty open to suggestions but would like something we can either drive to or has reasonable airfare. I know late March is always questionable with the weather but if we took a beach vacation we would like the weather to be warm enough to use the beach/ocean. Any suggestions?
My husband would love it if we could take his boat and do some fishing too but not a must do for me.

Sad thing is, noone can guarantee what the weather will be like in certain areas. Your safest bet would be south Florida. The last weekend of March last year, we took my DD(16) to Panama City Beach for her birthday. It was rainy and cold so we couldn't enjoy the beach. My DD and her friends tried to lay out on the beach but they just about froze. It was funny to look down from the patio and see them huddled in a ball wrapped up in their towels. I made sure I booked a resort with an indoor pool and I'm glad I did. At least they got to swim in the pool. :sad2:

Thats what I am afraid of and of course the further south we go the more expensive our travel is but it sounds like that might be what we have to do.

We are in Kansas, and our plan was to go skiing over spring break. We have had the worst winter, and we are headed to Florida. We got pretty good airfare on Southwest on the way down- $69 and Airtran on the way back- $64. My husband just did this a week ago. He also booked us on a cheap Royal Caribbean 3 night cruise. We'll spend a couple nights at the Pop Century and then go on the cruise.

I would go way south like Marco or Naples. What is your closest airport

Last winter my brother and I rented a house in Naples and it worked out great.
It was a 4 bedroom so there was room for myself and my son and grandson to have our rooms and my brother and wife and their two kids had the otehr two rooms.
The house had a fantastic family room/kitchen and a large screened in patio with a built in heated pool and 4 bathrooms so we each had our own. Also had a formal living room and dining room but we never used these rooms.
We paid something like $1,000 for 7 nights and split the cost.
We had a few warm days and went to Lovers Key( a great beach) and the beach in Naples. On the cooler days we stayed in the house and went in the pool. The women also did some shopping while the men stayed at the house with the kids.
The family room had a big screen TV, DVD, and a great stereo system at the pool and some videos but we had brought some of our favorites too.
the owner also had a huge book with restaraunt ideas and places in the area to visit.
He also had beach chairs and toys and those wire mesh buckets for searching for sharks teeth etc.. in the tide. We wound up with so many shells and sharks teeth. I even found some sand dollars at Lovers Key.
We found the house at VBRO which was recommended by someone on these boards then. I will send you the house that we rented if you are interested, just send me a PM.

Closest airport is Louisville, KY.

Years ago there used to be charter vacations where you could go to the Bahamas and Mexico pretty cheap. Anyone know the names of these or if they are still around? It seems like the one around here flew out of Cinci and was a direct flight and included air, room, etc.

I don't know how cheap they are/ were but most of us in Indiana remember Ambassadair trips which used to go through ATA. Ambassadair is still alive and kicking. And they have a number of trips listed on their websites. The trips used to include a direct flight, hotel and, I believe, specific events that one could attend.

Have you thought of waiting further into summer? My suggestion is, if you can (and if you haven't) to check out Indiana dunes state park. We went up there late last summer, and it was an awesome beach SO close to home! (just east of Chicago). JMO, and it would be a lot cheaper, tho it does have to be a good bit warmer (into summer months). And they have an awesome campground - we only spent $500 for our weeklong trip, and that included gas from St. louis.
