Spring Break or August?? What would you do?

I can't decide between Spring Break or August. My spring break would be the two weeks surrounding Easter. I'm thinking the crowds would be much heavier at Spring Break, but cooler. Where as August would have the heat, but less crowds? My Mom can't STAND the heat at all, so she would be limited to going out at night, which is fine, because she's a night owl. What would you choose?

Well we went during spring break and wow was it crowded but we were prepared so we still had a blast. The weather was beautiful almnost no rain, just do your homework on how to get around the crowds and then I would go in the spring for your mom...

Hot is hot. I know August is hotter than spring. However, it can still be in the low 90's in the spring. So hot it hot. Now the crowds at Easter will be somewhat heavier than in August. I'd be voting August. We've done Easter once and we only seen 1/8 of what we usually do. Overall it just wasn't worth the money at that time of year.

I've been at Easter - swore I'd never go then again because of the crowds. I've been August - swore I'd never go then again because of the heat. So this brings up a real dilemma. I guess the heat was worse - hard for me to enjoy much at all. I complained about the crowds, but as long as you prepare mentally and plan accordingly it is doable. Good luck!

We went this past Easter week and would definitely go again!!! The weather was nice and we always made sure to get to the parks early and had a plan, so we never waited more than 10 min. for anything.

Would NEVER go in July or August -- UGGGGGGHHHHHHHH, way too hot and muggy, and the crowds will be nearly as heavy or as heavy as Easter/Spring Break.

We had a blast over Spring Break this year. With planning and help from the Disboards we were able to see twice as much at WDW than our previous trip just before Thanksgiving 2003. It was nice weather both times. I was soooo very tempted by some really cheap airfare from Aug 18-22 (four of us could fly, have a room and park hoppers for $1800 + food). I called my Mom to discuss it with her and not only did she think I was nuts because we were just there in March, but she reminded me how much I HATE HATE HATE extreme heat. (sigh) Oh well I can save up for a longer trip some other time I guess :(

Anyway, Spring Break costs more probably, but it was wonderful! We made effective use of early EMH only at MK (early EMH at AK was a waste of time IMHO).

I agree with Hot is Hot. We went this April, and it was mid-80's and it was almost too hot for my Mom. I'm almost thinking August because of the crowds, but it the crowds are similar to April, then we would do April.

I would rather be hot and sticky than hot and sticky and angry at the swarms of teens over Spring Break. I'd avoid Spring Break like the plague.

We love going the third week in August, for three reasons:

- crowds shrink dramatically after the 2nd week in August because of all the southern school systems opening. At that time they are nothing like the ugly mobs one sees during spring break periods. Toruing parks in late August is great. How much so? How does a walk-on at the Tower of Terror at 2pm sound? We've done it....

- The heat -- which as another poster has pointed out can be just as bad in May and June -- scares away lots of people :rolleyes2 , which makes the crowds even smaller!!!

- Parks hours and show schedules are still decent.

I could go on, but would rather not promote this "secret season" any more than I already have. Wouldn't want to attract more crowds..... :cool1:

Of course the only time I've been is in March/April. The weather has always been pleasurable,70's and 80's, last time was even seasonably cold. I wouldn't be able to tell you the difference in the crowd. I have this thing in my head that after winter here I need to head to the warmer weather in the spring...just for a break. I can't imagine leaving the hot summer here and jumping into worse hot there.
