We are going to Universal Mar 31-Apr 2. We are staying at RPR so I know we can enter WWOHP an hour early but what time should we get to the gate? The park opens at 9, so WWOHP at 8...

How long do we need to allow to get from the hotel to the park?

I've been reading here for quite some time...we are big HP fans and excited to go to the darkside this trip.

From RPR is about a 8-15 minute walk depending on speed. If you take the boat you might be the same time depending on when the boats are running. Also staying at RPR you are closer to IOA for WWOHP by walking. If you take the boat it drops you in the middle of Citywalk vs the walkway that comes out by Margaritaville which is right by the entrance of IOA. As for time I would bet there at 7:45-7:50 and find out which line is for hotel guests.

I agree with Bluer's advice. We were there in late November (the Sunday after Thanksgiving) and arrived at the gates (after 10 mins of walking from RPR) about 7:40, and we were about #50 in line.

The key once you get to the WWOHP area is to go right to Ollivander's - most will be queuing up for the castle. By the time you're done with Ollivander's, you'll walk right through the castle because the first line will have passed. We ended up being in the 3rd Ollivander's show and thus didn't have to wait too long (maybe 15 minutes tops).

Have fun! We loved it so much we're going back this summer.

Another thought. On our late-July trip, we got to the turnstiles around 7:40, and kept walking: they were already open for on-site guests. I don't know if that will be the case for you, but just letting you know of the possibility.

I'd plan on leaving the resort at 7:30. If there's a boat there, you could take it, but otherwise, it's a nice 10-15 min walk. We arrived at about 7:45 and the gates were already open. If you need to pick up tickets, I'd give yourself an extra 10 minutes or so since those lines (esp. when you have to wait for a "real person") can get very long.
