On this trip are:
Me (53)
My husband, Toby (53)
Emily (22), our youngest daughter who will be graduating from college next month, and getting married less than a month after that. This will be our last trip with her as a single woman!

This trip had a very rocky start to it. Last year at this time, we bought our first motorhome and really haven’t used it as often as I had hoped we would. We do love it, but we always seem to have issues with it. Most problems can be attributed to user-error and inexperience, but ever since we bought it (it was used), the front driver’s side slide has had trouble going out. We decided to put it in the shop three weeks before our trip to get it fixed. They had to order a new motor for the slide, and we also asked them to do an oil change and service the generator. The Friday before we left, they finally called to say it was ready. Unfortunately I had to work late that day, and by the time we got to the repair shop, they were about to close. So we quickly picked it up and headed home.

As soon as we got home, my husband realized that the generator didn’t work at all, so it went back into the shop the following day. Luckily for us, we were able to pick it up Tuesday afternoon. We packed it and got on the road about 10 pm that night.

We drove for a couple of hours and then stopped at the Dooley County, Georgia rest area to sleep. We were on the road by about 7 or so the next morning. We stopped a few times along the way, the most time consuming was when my husband stopped to pick up new wiper blades for the RV. I felt like we were on a wild goose chase as we were sent from RV dealership to RV dealership. We eventually found a place that had the right ones, but it delayed us by over an hour! When we were almost to the Fort, we decided to find a Publix so we could get some groceries. Unfortunately our GPS kept sending us in the wrong direction…actually it kept telling us to get off of 429, go left, and get back on 429 going the opposite direction! One of the times when we got off, it once again tried to put us back on 429, so we made a U-turn and tried to get back on, only to find one of those unmanned toll booths where you have to have the exact change! We had to pull the RV off the road while we searched for .75, but luckily we finally found it. It was very frustrating. We eventually got off at the exit after Western Way and hit the Publix there. Around this time, Kenny called to see what time we would be at the Fort and we told him we would meet him in about an hour figuring that would give us plenty of time.

Before pulling into the Fort, we called Cheryl and Jeff (4mickey2). They offered to drive around the 800 loop (which we requested earlier in the week) and find us a good spot. We pulled up to the guard gate and were directed to lane 4 since we had done online check-in. Big mistake! We are never lucky with the online check-in line. Every line moved except for ours. I even got out of the MH at one point to see if the women in front of us had done online check-in (figuring we could move to another line if they hadn’t)…they hadn’t done online check-in and told me they really weren’t sure they were even at the right place! We let Emily out of the RV so that she could go meet Omar for the cart, and about that time Cheryl called to say that they were going to go check on our golf cart for us. Of course, we forgot to tell them that we had rented from Kenny, so they went to the Fort’s rental area instead. Jeff spotted the RV and came by and suggested that I go inside to check in. Jeff and I went in while Toby stayed in the RV in line, only to find the most unpleasant CM at the Fort. First she told me I couldn’t check in inside because we did it online, and then she went out and got our packet. Then she told me that we weren’t in the 800 loop, but in the 500 loop. I explained to her that we wanted to be near our friends and since Jeff agreed that they wanted to be by us, she called and got us site 839!!! This was one of the good sites that Jeff and Cheryl had picked for us. I asked the CM why they don’t hang a sign over the express check-in line so that only people who did the online check-in would go there, and she informed me there was no such thing as express check-in…I guess I just used the wrong terminology, but like I said, she wasn’t very nice.

I hopped into the golf cart with Emily and Toby drove the RV to the site. Jeff stopped by to help guide Toby into the site, and we spent the next hour or so getting everything set up on the site.

After that, Emily and I did a little bit of looping, stopped by Trail's End to fill our mugs. When we got back to the RV, we mixed up a yummy pitcher full of pina coladas! This is the perfect start to our vacation.

Shortly after that, Cheryl stopped by and invited us to dinner at their site. We were very happy about this since we were pretty tired from our trip. Dinner was fantastic!!! Burgers, brats, beans...yum!!! Then Cheryl gave me a cute Disney towel that she found at property control last year that had my name on it. I was so surprised, and I love it! It's now hanging in the bathroom in the RV…isn’t it cute?

We also met Jeff’s brother, sister-in-law, and niece and they were very nice. They were all going to Downtown Disney and Cirque, so we headed back to our RV to relax.

Emily and I drove the cart over to the campfire (Toby was exhausted and just wanted to stay home) and picked up a s’mores kit. We each roasted a marshmallow, ate our s’more, ran by Trail's End and refilled our mugs, and headed back to the RV.

One disappointment with this trip was the bugs. There were these tiny little gnats that seemed to swarm all around our site. Jeff and Cheryl didn’t seem to have as many as we did and I’m not sure why, but even our bug candles couldn’t keep the bugs away. Unfortunately that meant that we didn’t get to sit outside as much as I had hoped.

Coming up...EPCOT's Flower & Garden Festival!

Emily and I decided that we would try to walk every morning during the trip, so we got up early, hopped into the golf cart and headed down to the Settlement to find the walking path to the Wilderness Lodge. We had no idea where it was, and at one point we ended up in some area that was for CM’s only (near River Country). When we realized where we were, we turned around, and there was a CM right behind us. We explained what we were trying to find, and she sent us in the right direction. Around this time I started telling Emily the story about Tri-Circle D’s pictures and she couldn’t wait to see them. We saw several deer while we were walking. I was so surprised to see how many people were out running and jogging.

After returning to the RV, we showered and then headed to the Meadow Trading Post because Emily needed to get online to meet with a group from school to work on a project. Getting connected was a nightmare. It just wouldn’t connect! We kept getting a message telling us to call 56 on the nearby phone, but when I did, I was put on hold forever. Everyone else that was online there was complaining about the slowness and the cost of the internet. I really wish that Disney would just give us free wireless!

While she had her online meeting, I walked around and took a few pictures. I won't bore you with all nine million of them, but these are two of my favorites.

When she was done with her schoolwork, she asked to see the pictures of River County and so I pulled up Tri-Circle D’s pictures. She couldn’t believe that Disney had left it in such disrepair.

After that, we drove the cart up to the Outpost to catch the bus to EPCOT. We were very lucky this trip with the buses! I don’t think we waited for more than a few minutes the entire trip. I normally HATE Disney transportation, but since we didn’t tow a car this time, we had to use the buses.

When we got to EPCOT, we had to buy Emily a pass. We weren’t sure if we would get her an annual or just a pass for a few days. Emily’s fiancé is in the Navy (currently stationed in Pensacola) and they will not be able to go on a honeymoon right after their wedding, so they had planned to go to WDW about a month after. Considering her next trip, we decided to get her an annual pass and get our DVC discount. After purchasing it, the CM told us that when her pass expires, she has 30 days to renew it and the renewal will be good for 15 months. Emily remembered that last March, she had purchased an annual and asked if she could check and see if she was within the 30 days. The CM was great! She looked it up on the computer and I think we were exactly 30 days from when her pass expired! She cancelled the pass we had just bought, and renewed the old one, and we even got a partial refund for some reason (it all made sense at the time, but I can’t remember why now).

One thing I need to mention is that I am not a “ride person”. I really don’t enjoy going on the rides, so my husband was thrilled to have Emily with him because she will go on everything! While they got in the 60 minute long line for Soarin, I went to get them FPs for Mission Space. I walked around taking pictures and visited the butterfly garden. It was much better this year than it was last year...at least this year I didn't see any dead butterflies!

I headed to Mousegears and did some shopping. While I was in there, I found a lost little girl! It has become a joke in my family that we can’t go to Disney World without me finding a child that is lost. So of course, this trip was no exception. I took the little girl to one of the CMs and hopefully they were able to quickly find her mother.

Shortly after that, they got off of the ride, we went to Seasons and ate lunch, and then headed to World Showcase. I bought a Tinkerbell bird bath to replace the one I bought last year that I broke, and a new Mickey topiary to replace the one I killed. We also bought a Tinkerbell hummingbird feeder that I thought was really cute. We walked around the countries, stopping in France for a Grand Marnier slushie and a Grey Goose slushie and they were delicious as usual.

We also stopped by Norway because I wanted to try the school bread, but they didn’t have any.

By the way, you’ll probably notice that in these pictures, Emily is wearing a We’re Engaged button. When we bought her annual pass, she told the CM about her engagement and how her fiancé had planned to propose while they were at WDW right after Christmas. Unfortunately her ring wasn’t ready before they left on their trip, so he ended up proposing when they got back home on New Year’s Eve. The CM gave her two of the buttons even though they were engaged several months before, and Emily put hers on. The funny part was that the entire day, people kept congratulating her and asking where her fiancé was…except for one CM that seemed to think that her father was her fiancé….yuck!!! She didn’t wear the button after that!

We really enjoyed the topiaries this year, especially this one.
Apr082010_3017-1.jpg

Can’t remember what else we did, but we eventually went back to the RV, did some looping and then Toby started to cook some chicken on the grill for dinner. Everything seemed to be going great until Toby went inside the RV to get something, and came out and announced that he was done with camping and we were selling the RV!!! What???? I looked at him like he had lost his mind, and he explained that the RV had blown a fuse and we had lost all power. I honestly didn’t think this was a big deal, we just replace the fuse, right? No, he doesn’t know which fuse, it’s all my fault and Emily’s because things were plugged in (however nothing was turned on except the TV…and he’s the one that left it on…but of course, that isn’t what caused the problem…only the stuff the Emily and I had plugged in caused the problem…LOL! ). Around this time, Jeff and Cheryl stopped by and Jeff and Toby tried to figure out what the problem was. They finally determined that it was the electrical box and not the RV! Thank goodness! We will get to keep the RV and camp at the Fort again! Emily and I drove up to the front desk to get them to call someone to fix it. The guy showed up very quickly, but seemed to have a lot of trouble fixing it. Here’s a picture the guys working on the post.
Apr082010_3040-1.jpg

Later that evening, we each got in our golf carts and did some looping…in case you didn’t know this, it is much easier to loop with another couple if you are in the same golf cart, but it was still a lot of fun! We stopped off at the beach and watched Wishes with them. Did a little more looping and then went to bed.

Tomorrow....Magic Kingdom!

:cool1: Get to KEEP the CAMPER!!!! (it's never there fault):guilty:;)

Same thing happened to us with the electrical box 2 years ago. Of course, it was my fault and my daughters, until we realized it was the electrical box. They came and replaced it and the CM and his apprentic told us that this happens alot. People overload the boxes and then when the next person hooks up, the box blows. My husband said that they need to check all of the boxes, but that would take a long time and I guess Disney doesn't want to do preventative maintenance in this area. It's easier to fix it once it's broken. Like you, they came quickly and replaced the box. :tinker:

Jeff loves that stuff, he'd be miserable it it weren't for elec problems or satellite dishes to mess with.:rolleyes1

Hey neighbor! I have that same sign except mine is a frog! Well, and the name on it is different. :rotfl:

Did you get yours at the Yellow Daisy Festival at Stone Mtn?

Jeff loves that stuff, he'd be miserable it it weren't for elec problems or satellite dishes to mess with.:rolleyes1

Sounds like you know Jeff well! Last year, when we went for Spring Break, we had owned the RV for less than 24 hours and had no clue what we were doing (only camped one time before). Jeff came down and helped Toby with quite a few things...getting the satellite dish to work, helping us find switches to turn on certain lights, explaining how things worked, etc. It was great! When we lost the power on this trip, and my husband was getting all upset, I told him to just go see Jeff and that he'd be able to fix it! I think Jeff and Cheryl need to come with us on all of our camping trips just so that Toby doesn't decide to sell the RV again!

Did you get yours at the Yellow Daisy Festival at Stone Mtn?

Yes, that's where we got it! I had the man take parts off of other signs so that I got exactly what I wanted...the right saying, the right critter...those guys were super nice! There was another campsite on our loop on this trip that had one too. I can't remember what type of animal was on theirs, but I wondered if they had gotten it at the festival too.

Great trip report and love the pictures, helps ease the pain till we get to the Fort in July ( can't wait). Looking forward to more have a great trip.

Friday, April 9th

Today was Magic Kingdom day, however no day is complete without RV problems, so today started with a stopped up toilet. Okay, I’ll admit it, this time it WAS my fault! We didn’t have any of that special toilet paper that you are supposed to use in RVs, so I just brought the Charmin along for the trip. You’d think with all the trips to the RV repair place that I could have remembered to pick some up. Luckily Toby was able to fix it quickly!

I know that I said that Emily and I would walk every morning, but it never happened again for the entire trip. We had good intentions, but it just never worked out. We got our coffee, ate our breakfast and hopped into the golf cart for a trip to the Settlement. There was a huge line waiting for the boat, but we needed to go into the store to look for some Benedryl lotion (wasp sting) and by the time we got out, the line was gone and another boat was on the way. Perfect timing!

It had rained during the night and it was very overcast in the morning, but it still looked like it was going to be a nice day. When we arrived, the morning parade was going on, so we went through a few stores to avoid the crowd. When we got out, we saw the Mayor (no, not Donnie, the other Mayor) and some friends watching the parade.
Apr092010_2789-1.jpg

We headed to Splash Mountain first to see how long the line was, and since it wasn’t bad, they got in line. Along the way, I saw this beautiful flower and had to take a picture. Does anyone know what this is? I love the way it looks, and want to plant some in my yard!
Apr092010_2800-1.jpg

I went off to shop for my soon-to-be grandson (due in just a few short weeks…it’s our first grandchild, so we are excited)! I found a few cute outfits for him, but decided to wait until we went to Downtown Disney to buy them. For some reason I thought that we got a better discount down there than we did at the parks, but it is 10% either way. About this time, it started to rain, and I heard them cancelling the show that was going on in front of the castle. Even though it was cancelled, a minute or two later the fireworks started going off.

After they got off Splash, we stopped at Pecos Bills for lunch. While we were standing in line, I noticed this little boy wearing one of those harness type leashes. He was just sort of playing around, but in the process got the leash wrapped around his neck. The next thing you know, the mother tugged on it not realizing where it was. The boy’s eyes got really big, and I quickly said, “It’s around his neck!” The mother immediately looked at him and realized what had happened. You could tell she felt really bad and I think it scared her as much as it scared the little boy. So just as a word of warning, if you use one of those harnesses, don’t tug on it unless you look at the child first. :)

I can’t remember what else we did. I know we did Pooh and Philharmagic, ate ice cream on Main Street, but other than that, I just don’t remember. We went back to the Fort and took Jazz (our fluffy child) to the dog park. He had a blast! There were tons of dogs there, and a couple showed up with two dogs and one of them looked almost just like Jazz. The black dog in the first picture is my dog, the second picture is the other dog.

Apr092010_2829-edited-1.jpg

We also saw this Spanish Moss on the ground right by the dog park. I thought it looked like a dog bone.
Apr092010_2832-1.jpg

After that, Toby hung out at the RV with the dog, and Emily and I went to Downtown Disney. We did a lot of shopping while we were down there and she was able to pick up her wedding gift to her fiancé, plus gifts for her flower girl and ring bearer. We had everything sent back to the Fort because one of the boxes was way too big for us to carry on the bus. One thing I wanted to mention about the discounts...it seems that just about every store at Downtown Disney is giving a discount, not just World of Disney. The main difference seems to be the amount you have to charge to get the discount. If you are getting the Disney VISA discount, you have to charge $50 or more, but if you are using the annual pass discount, it can be for any amount. We were able to get a discount at World of Disney, Goofy's Candy Shop, the Toy Store, and the Christmas store.

Later that night we went to see Wishes at the Magic Kingdom. It was packed, but we still had a great time.
Apr092010_2857-1-1.jpg

On the way back, we noticed that there were a lot of spotlights on over at River Country. Once we got back to the Settlement, we drove the golf cart over in that direction so that we could try to see if they were doing work in there, but we couldn’t see or hear anything. I’m not sure why it was all lit up.

Saturday, April 10th

Toby and Emily slept in a little bit on Saturday. We got new neighbors on Friday, and I guess they were pretty noisy. I slept through it, but Emily and Toby went to bed later than I did because Emily was trying to get some laundry done. My biggest complaint with this family was that they kept driving their golf cart all up and down the grassy dog walking area that is behind the 800 loop. Are you allowed to do that??? They also had some type of light on the driver's side of their RV. They left it on all night, and it was so bright that it let a lot of light into the front area of our MH (I guess it was kind of shining under the front curtain). Emily had complained to us about it the first night, but we figured it couldn't be too bad since you sleep with your eyes closed, right? But the second night, I got up in the middle of the night and was so surprised at how much light was shining in.

Cheryl and Jeff were leaving that day, and at one point I looked out and saw Cheryl putting something on our golf cart. It was these cute little Mickey & Minnie Easter clings. She had used them to decorate their carts, but since they were leaving, they put them on ours. I still need to get her address so that I can mail them back to her…she might need them again for next Easter at the Fort! We ate our breakfast, got our coffee and stopped by their site to say our goodbyes, and then it was time to go to Hollywood Studios.
Apr102010_2768-1.jpg

First stop was Toy Story Mania, but since we were getting there pretty late, the FP return time was around 5pm and the standby line was 60 minutes. Since this is our absolute favorite ride, we got a FP and also got in line. The wait was far worse than the sign had indicated and for awhile there we considered not waiting, but eventually we were able to board our cars. I could post a funny picture of Emily waiting in line, but she would probably kill me, so I'll just give you a picture of Mr. Potato Head instead.
Apr102010_2763-1.jpg

We had a bet going that whoever got the lowest score had to pay for lunch. Emily knew that she was safe…she didn't bring any money with her to the park! I honestly thought that I would at least come in second this time, but no…last place again for me! Toby got 153,000, Emily got 149,000 and I got 148,000! One of these days I’m going to beat them!

We headed over to Rock n Rollercoaster and Emily got in the standby line. Toby and I did some shopping while she rode. It didn’t take long at all and she was out. We got a bite to eat at Catalina Eddie’s by the Tower of Terror and I had a fantastic veggie burger! I can honestly say it was the best one I have ever had. After that, Toby and Emily did Tower of Terror. Toby was very happy that he didn’t get stuck on it like he did back in October (he and my son-in-law were stuck for almost 40 minutes on that trip)!
Apr102010_2764-1.jpg

We watched American Idol, and other than that I can’t remember what else we did. Before leaving the park, we stopped by Sid Cahuenga’s and I bought a small book that tells the story of the people who are on the windows on Main Street, and also another one full of Walt Disney quotes.
Apr102010_2778-1-1.jpg

We had to return the golf cart at 5:30, so once we got back to the RV, we removed all of the cute little Mickey’s on our golf cart and Toby drove it back up to meet Doug (another one of Kenny’s employees). They had a little bit of difficulty finding each other, but eventually they figured it out.

Since it was our last night, we decided eat at Trail’s End. We have never eaten there before (other than picking up a Giddy-up-and-go bucket), and since I have heard mixed reviews here on the boards, I wasn’t sure what to expect. It actually was pretty good. We love the ribs at the Hoop-de-doo Review and my guess is that these are the same ones. I can’t remember everything that was on the buffet, but I do remember peel & eat shrimp, chicken, fish, ribs, mac n cheese, beans, green beans…I can’t remember what else…I should have taken a picture. But we enjoyed it. We were able to use our Tables in Wonderland card, so we got a 20% discount and they added an 18% gratuity to the bill.

That night, Emily and I returned to the campfire to make another s’more, walked to the Settlement to refill our mugs, and then headed back to the RV. The neighbors next door were very loud again. The little kids were screaming behind our RV, but by 11:00 they finally quieted down, and we were all able to go to sleep.

Sunday, April 11th

This is the day I always hate…the day we have to pack to go home. It didn’t take us long to get everything unhooked and slid into place. Emily and I did our coffee run and Toby took Jazz out for one more nice long walk before we got on the road. We finally left the Fort at around 10:30. The ride home was miserable. The traffic was stop and go continually. We saw several accidents and at one point had to wait while they towed an upside down boat out of the middle of I-75! Luckily it didn’t appear that anyone was hurt. Cheryl texted me several times during the day to tell us how their trip home was going, and it sounded like hers was even worse than ours. We finally got home at about 7:30…about an hour and a half longer than it usually takes to get home.
It was a great trip! It was nice to get to spend time with Jeff and Cheryl and their precious puppies. So far it looks like Toby has forgotten that he wanted to sell the RV.

Our next trip is scheduled for July, but we may end up cancelling that one. After that, we will be there in early October for the Food & Wine Festival. We will be bringing our other daughter, son-in-law, and new grandson on that trip! I can't wait!
