We just came back from UO & WDW. I am trying to plan for the week of spring break 2014. Kids will be 11 & 13 and we live in NY. I am looking for ideas for this week of vacation. Weather is weird this time of year in the northeast - so not many places to go here. Not into going back to Florida so soon. Don't want to go anywhere that requires passports. Where would you go?

We did Gatlinburg a few years ago for spring break and have been trying to get back. Had a great time.

We just booked a cruise on the Allure of the Seas. Very excited! It does leave from Florida but we have Southwest points and will use those for our airfare.

So my ideas are..a cruise?

Where are you in NY? carnival Splendor is sailing an 8 night cruise that week which we also considered. It leaves from NY City.

Or....Myrtle Beach?

Or..Hilton Head....this was our original plan, but we will be there for Christmas instead.

Williamsburg is awesome.

DC is great too.

Wisconsin Dells and all the waterparks?

Have fun planning!:)

I think they are only open weekends in April. Would have to check their website to be sure.

Norwegian GEM out of NY to the Bahamas, or Caribbean is a great time. For five in April last year was $2,800. The gratuities $12 a day per perśon, then any out of pocket you spend. We did Cocoà Beach, next time will be the Space center, their private island was tremendous fun, in Nassau we did a taxi tour $20 and free beach.
I never realized how much to do on the ship and freestyle is carefree. The most relaxing vacations î have had. With the weather up north nice to get away.

We are close to Manhattan - hmmm cruise seems like a good option, but, nervous about being on a boat in the middle of the ocean. Food poisoning and illness issues on the news? Being crammed into one of those tiny rooms for a week... Guess I saw Titanic too many times:) Anyone have a particular line they like to use?

We have cruised with Princess, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Carnival. Our favorite when we go with our three kids...17, 15 and 12 is by far Royal Caribbean.

Their ships are awesome for active families. I also think Carnival and Norwegian are good for families. We have never done Norwegian, but liked Carnival and may do it again someday.

My one bit of advice is to pick and newer ship....particularly on Carnival.

Out of NY Carnival has the Splendor and Royal Caribbean has the Explorer that leaves from Jersey. (Beautiful ship with lots to do and great service.

Norwegian also has the GEM and I believe Breakaway from NYC.

Check out cruisecritic.com for pictures and reviews. Definitely pays to do your homework with cruises.

Hope this helps!;)

Or....you can come with us on the Allure of the Seas! Check out the virtual tours for it! Cannot wait!!!:cool1:

Awesome - I will look into all of them:) I did price out the Norwegian Breakaway over our week 4/13 and it comes out to over $5300.00 - yikes!

If you can leave a few days early, the Explorer is doing the 9 nighter to Bermuda and Caribbean. We did this last Two Thanksgivings ago and it was our best vacation ever!! Leaves Thursday to Sat. I think....and less than the Breakaway.

Also Splendor was like $3700 that week for five of us...another option.

We are actually off the week of April 20.

Can't have kids missing any school here - too hard to make up all the work. Cruising seems pretty steep... although fun. Last year we did Rocking Horse Ranch. Have been to DC many times. Kids are in SC right now.... any other ideas?

Great place PR - I have been there, but, kids have not:)

We are going to wisconsin the dells to the wilderness. enough indoor to be fun for all the kids. Pretty cheap if I can get sw airlines free flights I am estimating 1500 for family of 5 for hotel room car from mon-thurs.

Jaimaica summer 2014 so I have to keep it semi cheap :)

How is Busch Gardens in VA spring break time? As in week before Easter?

Busch Gardens is usually open weekdays the week before and after Easter. The weather can be unpredictable, but Easter is late this year so that definitely increases the odds of good weather!

We spent part of Spring Break in Atlanta a couple of years ago: aquarium, World of Coke, Fernbank Natural History Museum, Atlanta Braves baseball game, Zoo. There's also Stone Mountain and Six Flags. We are within driving distance so it's an easy trip for us, but plenty to see. We went to Chattanooga last summer and enjoyed that, also: Lookout Mountain, Ruby Falls, Rock City, Incline Railway, aquarium, children's museum.

That sounds like a fun place!!! I will have to look into Atlanta:)

Won't it be too cold in Wisconsin Dells over spring break? What about San Diego?
