Spray Painting Bar Stools?

I need to buy four counter height stools and everything that I like is more than what I want to spend. I can buy them unfinished for about half the cost. I am looking at stools that have vertical slats on the chair back so painting with a brush would be tedious.

Has anyone ever spray painted unfinished furniture and had good results?

I saw in a recent publication of Budget Living Magazine how they used a special kind of spray paint (it had a texture to it) on barstools and it looked great. They also had somethign about recovering and using a staple gun.

I used textured spray paint on my unfinished bar stools and it worked great. They still look good 2 years later

OK, so why textured paint??

Also, did you have any trouble with drips? Did you prime first. How many coats of paint did you use? Is there anyway to seal the paint?
