Crazy me has never bought the stuff, so this may seem like a crazy ? but will one 5oz bottle last my family of 5 for the day? I normally just buy like the 7-8oz regular kind and it will last us quite a few days.....just trying to figure out if I should bring more than one bottle with me to the water parks.:thumbsup2

it does not last very long. i would definitely bring more than one bottle. i usually put the actual cream sunscreen on everyone before we leave and then later reapply with the spray (it is so easy to reapply!). i am not convinced it lasts as long as the thick cream. my girls burn easily so i am always extra cautious though. to me, the spray is too expensive to use exclusively. if you have a christmas tree shop, they have the best prices on the spray. i think it was $3.99.

I know I can get 8 applications out of a bottle (brand new bottle, 4 preteen girls, 2 applications each). I *love* the spray because it's easy to apply and it's the only way I can actually protect myself. It works well for us. We use a stick for faces.

I lather everyone up with cream before we leave and use the spray to reapply too. I'd bring two bottles just in case. We are all fair so we reapply often especially at the water park. That much water and then toweling off is going to remove alot and you'll find the need to reapply more frequently.

I think it depends on how you use it and time of year. Before heading to the beach or pool we use the lotion all over. We use the spray just for reapplying during the day. I'd say one can would last us. My son does use the SPF swim shirt too though.

For a family of 5, one can will last for about one application on a swim day, when you are out in full sun with a lot of skin exposed. You will need a new can when you re-apply -- how often you do that would depend on your tendency to burn, but I would say if you are planning to be there open to close, you should re-apply at least twice. (We'd be reapplying about 5 times, but we're VERY fair-skinned.)

beware- everytime we have used it ,it turned all wahite areas on bathing suits yellow. also we just used it a month ago on vaca and it "ate" thru my new bathing suit. had to throw the suit away. :(:sad2:

Yes, the alcohol in it will dissolve the elastane fibers in Lycra suits. The key is to put on the initial application before you put the suit on, and then reapply with spray only in areas that don't come near the edge of the suit.

Wow I didn't know that and I used spray spf all summer. I hope my suits will still be ok. I may have to only spray the kids from now on. They outgrow their suits every year anyhow.

I only use the spray for part in the hair of my fair kids and on my own back where I can't reach. Play it safe and get a bottle of the reg stuff!

Also, do not spray it near your car or stroller! DH had to buy bug & tar remover at an auto store and scrub his car and the stroller, it took him about 2 hours to get it off.

Even going through the car wash twice did nothing!

I can go through a can in 2 days with 3 of us using it. But I'm so much more comfortable in the coverage. I prefer stick for faces with dd the alcohol can be quite strong. I haven't had the issue with staining or eating through bathing suit and I've used it for the past couple years.

The cream style should not last much longer either if you are putting enough on. I find the spray works a lot better on my skin.

I'd say for a family of 5 you need 2-3 cans. Maybe 2 cans but if you are reapplying enough it will be 3 probably. We ran out using 1 can when we were at the mini water park pool on labor day. Thankfully I had a bottle of cream kind I brought too but I ended up getting a mild pink burn that didn't peal. That was for 4 of us though as I had my best friends son. And I think my brother put it on her youngest when she arrived. That was technically 5 and one can did not last 3 hours.

Time between 10-4 I apply as often as I can feel heat on my skin. I went to the pool 2 days before that labor day trip from 2-5 and only put it on once. I usually do not use sunscreen when I go swim at our pool after 4pm. So for the hours of 10-4 I'd say 3 cans should be enough if you use a face stick.

Watch out for the spray Coppertone in the blue can (I think it is the sport version) - It stains terribly. I couldn't figure out why my kids' white shirts were getting all these big brown spots only around the sleeves and neck. We just figured out last week (after it happening to one of my shirts) that it was that spray! We have ruined several shirts this summer so watch out for that stuff! I do like the Neutrogena spray version and will stick with that in the future.

I wouldn't think the can would last, but I reapply more often when at a waterpark vs just the pool.

Thankfully, I have had no issues with the coppertone sport or any of the generic versions (CVS and Walmart). No eating through suits or stains on clothing. We use it daily for outside play and have a pool. I would be so upset if it ruined everything.

We use spray sunscreen almost exclusively, I have had no problems with it ruining our bathing suits. I would take a couple cans just in case but I can take 1 can and it's enough for the 4 of us, that's on the lake or to the parks but not water parks, we don't do WDW so no water parks for us. :)

IF you are going to use it, I would suggest 2-3 bottles. I do want to tell you to be careful, though. If you have not bought it yet, I would suggest buying the kind with the pump. My DS and I both have TERRIBLE reactions to the propellant used in the aerosol kind (this is the only thing I am known to be allergic to).:scared1: DS can't even be near when someone sprays it because it will blow on him. He ends up with a terrible red, itchy rash every time, and so do I. We like the Coppertone sun babies pump spray in the pink bottle. Have a fun trip!
