So we are fixing the basement...thanks to the flooding. Surprise cost that we don't have but in a bi-level it's just something that needs done. Goodbye February Dis trip:guilty: plus more!! Anyways, looks like cinder block underground walls were never waterproofed at all and then they used regular crappy 2x4's on top. They are rotted and we need it all out. I'm ready to move forward but I'm not sure about what to insulate/waterproof with. Anyone have closed cell insulation? Do you love it? I guess we are looking at some kind of dry-lock...only a kind that lasts longer and then an inch or so of closed cell spray foam. Guy fixing the house says it's the best. I'm just not completely sold. Anyone with experience? Thanks!

You need to address the water problem not just the damage from the water. Find out where the water is coming from and address is OUTSIDE the house. The problem with the water block products is that they only penetrate so deep into the blocks. This could allow water to still seep in from outside, then get trapped and freeze.

Beyond that I would make sure you get multiple quotes from contractors and see what they recommend...

I just did my basement this year with spray foam.
I found the price I got was more than regular insulation but cheaper than if I did the foam myself.

It is water proof so incase you get water again you should not get mold in the insulation
